Charles Ewing Obituary

Charles Ewing

May 27, 1932 - December 19, 2024

Charles A. "Chuck" Ewing, 92, of Toledo, OH, died December 19, 2024. He was born May 27, 1932, in Toledo, OH, to Paul E. and Viola N. (Clark) Ewing. He grew up singing in the church choir at Trinity Episcopal Church, which started his lifelong passion for singing. He was a devout Christian all his life, with additional church memberships at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 50 years with Lutheran Church of the Master, Community of Christ Lutheran Church, and was currently attending Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

He graduated from Macomber High School with a degree in printing, and began working at print shops in Toledo. He was called into service in the Army during the Korean War. He was kept off of the front lines by printing a military newspaper called the War Drum. Upon returning home, he began working for his father, Paul Sr., learning the inside of the Curtis 1000 business, which started his sales career. He was with the company for 39 years, earning top sales awards. Prior to retiring from Curtis, Chuck started selling CBX parts and motorcycles nationally. This evolved from an early love of racing Indian Motorcycles before entering the service.

As a youth, Chuck was a camper at YMCA Camp Storer, where he learned to sail. He sailed along with his wife Irene for 30 years, with memberships at Maumee River and North Cape Yacht Clubs. They enjoyed other sailing excursions to Maine, the Caribbean, Northern Michigan, and Ontario.

In 2004, Chuck started his third career as "Sir Charles" the Crooner, entertaining at numerous venues from nursing homes to singing the National Anthem at Mudhens and Walleye games.

He married Irene N. (Melchior) Ewing after a 3-month long courtship. They were married for 63 years. She proceeded him in death on September 23, 2018. Out of this union they had 3 children, Jayne Harrison, Becky Ewing, and Charlie (Valarie) Ewing. They survive, along with grandchildren, Michelle (Scott Weber) Harrison, Jesse (Heaven Burns) Harrison, Christopher (Nadine Llanas) Eckel, James (Jana Fish) Eckel, Heather (Pat Meeks) Eckel, Emily (Jason) Cicconi; and great-grandson, Parker Tipton. He was proceeded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul, Clark, George; sisters, Mildred and Carol; and infant great-grandson, Blake Eckel.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home, 7220 Dutch Rd., Waterville, OH, on Sunday, December 22, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., with funeral following at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
