Charles Spychala Obituary

Charles "Charlie" Spychala

11/21/1948 - 7/18/2025

Charles Spychala, age 76, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 18, 2025, at Manor at Perrysburg.

He was born with his twin brother, Thomas, on November 21, 1948, in Toledo, Ohio, to Raymond and Irene (Braciak) Spychala. Charlie was a graduate of St. Hyacinth Grade School and DeVilbiss High School. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, he served a tour in Vietnam. After his service, he returned home to begin his career with Champion Spark Plug. When Champion closed their Toledo operation, he chose to stay with the company and move to Burlington, Iowa. He resided there for several years until retirement, then moved back to Toledo.

He was a devoted father, grandpa, great-grandpa, son, brother, and uncle. Charlie loved spending time with his family and friends. He had an infectious personality and loved laughing, joking and hanging out with friends. He loved singing karaoke, bowling, playing horse shoes, darts, shooting pool, listening to music and just being social. He was an avid fan of The Toledo Mud Hens, Ohio State Buckeyes, Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions.

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Bobby) Taylor; son, Charles R. Spychala (Michelle); grandson, Bryce (McKenna) Shamburg; granddaughters, Kaleigh and Sydney Taylor; great-grandchildren (twins), May and Eli Shamburg; siblings, Judy (Dan) Edwards and Kathy (George) Beakas; sister-in-law, Debbie Spychala; twin sisters, Marie (Mike) Jankowski and Janet Spitulski; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Irene; and brothers, David and Thomas Spychala. Charlie's final days were spent under the care of hospice at the Manor at Perrysburg.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their compassionate care during Charlie's final journey.

Condolences to the entire Spychala Family. Growing up, I was friends with Janet & Marie. When Charlie returned from his service in Vietnam, I thought he was the coolest! He introduced me to the Sgt. Pepper album and other popular music of that time. These are my fond memories of "Spider Spychala." May he rest in peace.
