David Dorner Obituary
David J.
David J. Dorner, 76, of Toledo, died Monday, May 6, 2013, with his loving family at his side. He was born on June 14, 1936, in Toledo, OH to Walter D. and Alice (Stallbaum) Dorner. He worked for 37 1/2 years as a yardman for the former Detroit Toledo Shore Line Railroad, retiring in 2001.
Dave served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy and his country will be forever grateful for his service. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church as well as North Toledo Arrow Club and AmVets. The most important quality Dave had was his love of family; there wasn't anything more dear to him than his loving wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and time spent with them was his greatest joy and treasure.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Joy (DeHay); children, Kevin (Penny), Kenneth (Lori), Keith (Lori), Kari (Jeff) Schmitz and Kraig (Jennifer) Dorner; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Don (Shirley) and Richard (Judy) Dorner; brother-in-law, Wilfred "Willy" Hesterman, along with many loving nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death, parents and sister, Marilyn Hesterman.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013, from 2-8 p.m. at David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH 43611 and on Friday, May 10, 2013, from 12-1 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 710 Buckeye St., Toledo, OH. Funeral Service will begin Friday, May 10, 2013, at 1 p.m. in the church, officiating will be Pastor Donald Weiss and interment at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Those wishing to make a contribution in David's memory are asked to consider his family. Words of encouragement, fond memories, or photos may be placed for the family to receive at

My Father-In-Law, was a kind and noble soul, who touched so many of our lives.
The day that God called for him, we lost an extraordinary man and Heaven gained an amazing Angel. Thank you for welcoming me into your family so many years ago.

Having grown up with Dave as neighbors, attending grade school at Immanual Lutheran School, being drafted into the military in 1956, (He in the Navy, the last Navy draft) I in the Army. Dave was also in my wedding party.
For years we exchanged birthday phone calls. His being Flag Day, I told him that I put the flag out for him.
To Joy and family, I too will miss him !

We are so grateful to have had such a wonderful grandfather. We will cherish all of our fond memories and phone calls we had with him. Time spent with one another is the most important thing and we will hold onto those moments we spent when he visited us in San Diego and while we were in Ohio forever. Rest in peace Papa <3
