David "Dave" M. Horn

Dave Horn, 68, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday morning with his beloved wife by his side. He swung into the world in the heart of the summer in 1952 in Peoria, Illinois. He was the son of Louis & Phyllis Horn.

His Dad was thrilled to have a son, but he was more like his Mom. At an early age, Dave could not sit still which led him to be allowed to walk around the playground as he learned to read for his 1st grade teacher. That nervous energy led to sports, especially golf where he excelled as a junior player. His family later moved to Rochester, NY where he graduated from Pittsford High School. He continued his golfing passion as walk-on for the University of Tulsa golf program, excelling as one of the team's best players during his 4 years there. After graduating with a marketing degree, he found his way on to the professional golf mini-tours, as he pursued his dream to one day play professionally.

While he found success and once carded a career low, 64, he was always a couple putts short from making it to the next level. Because he didn't want to give up on the game of golf, he began working as an assistant golf pro at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York under the well-known Craig Harmon. It was there in Rochester in the Spring of 1975, he met Janie Scudlark who he fell in love with and later married on June 12, 1976. hey moved to Cleveland, Ohio to continue his golf career where he held assistant and teaching pro positions at Oakwood Golf Club and Beechmont Country Club. Those years helped him secure his first head golf pro position at Fairfield Country Club in Cincinnati. It was there, his two sons, Ben & Charlie were born. After 7 wonderful years, he found his way to Heatherdowns CC in Toledo, Ohio where he was the head golf professional from 1987-1993. Dave was very blessed to be able to spend time with his family while he worked, as his wife and sons spent countless hours with him during his working days.

After leaving the golf business, he opened his own business. He named it Bench Forms and Labels after his two boys and successfully operated it for 20 years with the help of his wife. A few years ago, he sold his business to Joshua Business Graphics, where he worked there in sales until his unexpected death from an aortic dissection of the heart. He fought long and hard to come back to all of us for 2+ months, but in the end his true Father was calling him home.

Dave's passions included following and rooting for his beloved Tennessee Volunteers, always wearing orange any chance he could get. He loved following the stock market, helping all his customers, playing cards, spending time with his friends and making an impromptu trip to the casino. His best days were ones he spent with his loving wife. And he jumped at any chance he could get to see his 2 boys and 4 grandchildren in North Carolina, all who he loved dearly.

Dave's greatest gift was his heart. He had a huge heart for others, always being kind to those he met no matter how different they may be than him. He helped many learn the game of golf and found an extended family with the members at the courses he worked. He lived life loosely, letting things roll off his shoulders with a sense of humor and kindness that most wish they possessed. He believed in reckless grace whether it be for helping a complete stranger, a neighbor or by always being there for his sons, his heart was bent on helping his fellow man. Dave's radiant smile, his jokes and his memories are truly a blessing. We believe he is in the arms Jesus, being told "well done, son."

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Janie; his son Ben and daughter-in-law Sherry, their children Benjamin (8) & Davyinny (5); his son, Charlie and daughter in law Jennifer and their children Lucas (4) and Nolan (1); his sisters, Sue Sweeney and Claudia Jackson. And many more wonderful nieces, nephews, brothers in laws and sister in laws. He is predeceased by his father and mother, Lou & Phyllis Horn. Because so many helped him survive by their blood, the family is asking those to donate blood or blood products in lieu of flowers. The family would also be honored if you considered a gift to The John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health.

Services to honor and celebrate the life of Dave Horn will be held in person this Friday, April 30th at St John XXIII at 24250 N Dixie Hwy, Perrysburg. Family and friends will be received from 12 Noon until the time of the memorial Mass at 1:00 p.m. The memorial Mass will be livestreamed on the Church's website or on his obituary page at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
