David Sims Obituary

David A. Sims Sr.

David A. Sims Sr., 76, of Millbury, Ohio, passed away at the University of Toledo Medical Center, Wednesday, June 26 surrounded by his family. David was born on July 16, 1947 to Raymond and Betty (Baumgartner) Sims. He married Mary (Heydinger) Sims on September 19, 1975 in Toledo.

He served our country as an Army Ranger in the 1st Infantry Division during Vietnam earning a combat infantry badge. He answered the call for our country at great personal cost.

Dave held Associates and Bachelors degrees from Owens Community College and Bowling Green State University in mechanical engineering. He was the proud owner of Custom Enterprise Inc., a fabrication and prototype design shop in East Toledo for 40 years. He proudly designed, built and drove pro stock race cars along with specializing in stainless steel fabrication in which he held several patents.

Dave loved spending time with his family and cooking great food for them as well as taking trips to casinos along with being a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, the National Rifle Association, Revitalize Fitness gym, Task Force 20, and the VFW in Walbridge.

Dave is survived by his loving Wife of 48 years, Mary (Heydinger) Sims; Children, Monica (Kyle) Leppelmeier and David (Jennifer) Sims Jr; grandchildren, Addyson, Connor and Annalee Leppelmeier and Lukas Sims; brothers, Ronald (Linda) Sims, Keith (Pam) Sims and Kenneth (Karen) Sims; aunt, Wilda Sims; beloved German Shepherds, Bailey and Ruger; as well as many lifelong friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Delaney Leppelmeier; and mother and father-in-law, Norman and Dorothy Heydinger.

The family will receive friends at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road on Friday, July 5 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 611 Woodville Rd. Toledo on Saturday, July 6 at 11:00 a.m., where the family will greet friends after 10:00 am. Interment will follow In Lake Township Cemetery.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Task Force 20 or St. Mark Lutheran Church.
