BAILEY
Dexter
Dexter E. Bailey, 74, of Toledo, OH died Thursday, January 28, 2016. He was born in Christiana, Manchester, Jamaica, son of Muriel Agatha Ellis and Leonard Bailey. In 1965, Dexter married Joan V. Turner at Baillieston Church in Clarendon, Jamaica. They have three children and migrated from Jamaica to the United States in 1968.
In Jamaica, Mr. Bailey was a driver for Rival Bakery, SamFo Bakery and Spaulding Bakery and a self-employed truck operator. He was employed by Meilink Industries in Whitehouse, Ohio from 1968 to 1991, where he served as a Local Union Officer with United Steelworkers of America. Moreover, Dexter built a successful real estate company -- Bailey's Rentals.
Dexter was extensively and intimately involved in a number of organizations in his community. He was a devoted member of Bethany Lutheran Church for over 40 years, serving on the Church Council multiple terms. Dexter served as President of the Toledo West Indian American Cricket Club and was a Member of the Toledo Co-op Credit Union Board. Dexter owned the Jamaican Cricket Club from 1997 to 2005 when he established Dexter's Jamaican Restaurant. Mr. Bailey never lost his passion for his homeland, Jamaica, and frequently organized tours from the U.S. to the island.
He leaves his beloved wife of 50 years, Joan Bailey; his children, Jannice Bailey-Zegeye, Dexter Bailey Jr., Kathy McFadden, and Sheryl Bailey; and his grandchildren, Abrihet, Ysaac, Desta, Cole, Brehan, Aria, Severin, Kerry and Leon.
