Donald Romes Obituary
Donald J. Romes, 89, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 18, 2023. He was born April 17, 1934, to Joseph and Ethel (Brown) Romes in Holgate, OH. He graduated from Holgate High School and received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Dayton.
Don served in the US Navy from 1954–1956 and the Naval Reserves from 1952-1960. He was an Engineer for Detroit Bureau of Highways & Expressways, the City of Toledo and was the Commissioner of Water Rec. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling with his wife, Jo Ann. Their adventures took them across almost all the United States, including a month in Alaska.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jo Ann (Kohls) Romes; son, Robin J. Romes; daughter, Jennifer (Darrin) Leasure; grandchildren, Robin D. (Robrich Sim) Romes and Collin D. Leasure; great-grandchildren, Nicole Romes Sim and Virvick Sim; brother, Thomas (Anne) Romes; brother-in-law, Larry Kuhlman; and nephews, Scott and Steve Kuhlman. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister-in-law, Ruth Kuhlman.
Friends and family are invited to visit on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Avenue, where a Memorial Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
