Doris Krueger Obituary

Doris Alene (Smith) Krueger

09/06/1942 - 07/12/2025

Doris Alene (Smith) Krueger, age 82, of Toledo, OH, passed away on July 12, 2025. Doris was born in Maynardville, TN, but largely grew up in Toledo, the second of seven children to Helen and Charles Bazzell. She graduated from Whitney High School in 1960, married in 1963, and celebrated 58 years of marriage to Don Krueger until his passing in 2022.

Her life's journey took her from Toledo to Minnesota in 1974, where she raised four children and then re-entered the workforce as a secretary and at various retail stores where her employee discount enhanced her love of shopping. In 2005 she moved to Homosassa, FL, to enjoy post-retirement living where she thrived on the sunshine, new friendships and started her dog-sitting business. In 2021, her journey came full circle when she moved back to Toledo to be closer to family.

Doris will be remembered as the spirited, bold, fiercely independent woman she was, living life on her own terms. She had many passions, including playing the piano, dogs, gardening, home decorating, exploring all the nooks and crannies of Florida, travel with family, and shoe shopping. She adored her big, crazy family and was in her element when she was spending time with them. She hosted festive family gatherings and raised grandchildren for many years during summer school breaks. She wasn't just a wife, a mother, or a grandmother - she was our home. With grace and boundless love, she raised generations, nourished souls, and held us together. Her absence leaves a deep silence, but her strength and spirit will echo through us for lifetimes.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don Krueger; brothers, Fred and Ronald Smith; and sister, Linda Timmons. She is survived by her four daughters, Donna Dickens (Robert), Deb Krueger (Bryan Smith), Denise Boothe (Roy), and Dianna Krueger (Chawn Lewis); grandchildren, Jennifer, Ashley, Kyle, Jamie Lee, and Robert; great-grandchildren, Avery, Jaden, and Sophie; brothers, Carl (Brandie) and Larry Bazzell; sister, Patty Sell; sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews in abundance.

A Celebration of Life for family will be held on August 2. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Animal Humane Society are suggested.

Thank you Dianna for this poignant photo of mom last month. It was a privilege to be her daughter and I miss her every day. Until we meet again Mom, I love you, now go dance your booty down to the ground

You will be deeply missed. I was fortunate to have had your wisdom throughout the years. Little talks of medical this or that that seemed intriguing to you. Zodiac signs and how much you would always know and be able to use that for whatever crazy was going on. I'll forever cherish the little things, roller skating, bike rides, trips to the beach, big margaritas in Florida. All the years Avery spent down in Florida with you and grandpa. Many many memories.
