Edward Isaacson Obituary

Edward A. "Ike" Isaacson

Edward A. Isaacson, more affectionately known as "Ike", was born October 8th, 1936, to Leo and Goldie Isaacson. Ed could never say no to anyone. He was always accepting new and challenging projects. He is more well-known for his service to others, charming personality, quick wit, and sense of humor. Ike was active in many organizations.

Ike attended Walbridge Grade School and graduated from Libbey High School in 1954. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the Navy. Ike spent 2 years of active duty on the Carrier USS Ticonderoga, CVA 14. During this time he traveled around the Mediterranean, and the Far East. Upon returning to civilian life, he stayed, in the Naval Air Reserve, as an Airman. Ike retired in 1998, with 20 plus years of service!

Ike was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church for more than 60 years. He served as an usher, was on the church council, on the counting crew, a past chairman of the property committee, and led fundraisers like chicken BBQs and Saur kraut dinners.

Ike was recognized in August 2018 as a 60-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local #8. During that time, he was a journeyman electrician for 43 years where he was primarily employed with Romanoff Electric. At different times, Ike served on the examining board and as chairman of the apprentice board.

Ike was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Calumet Lodge (now Northern Light # 40), and a Zenobia Shriner. He was extremely active as a Shriner, serving in many different capacities. Among those capacities were with the Shrine Circus and transporting children to and from hospitals for medical care.

He was a member of the Zenobia Highlanders (President, two years), the Zenobia Legion of Honor (Finance Officer, 7 years), President Ohio Shrine Association, President Great Lakes Shrine Association, Member of Zenobia Roadrunners, Potentate Zenobia Shrine 1998, and Royal Order of Jesters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Goldie Isaacson, and his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary (Kesling) Isaacson. Ike is survived by Douglas (Robin) Isaacson, Heather Stubbs, Daniel Isaacson, Catherine Isaacson, and Janet (Jason) Jacobs; grandchildren, Chelsea (Louis) Lockwood, Alonzo Lewis, Jonathan May, Avant'e Lewis, Amanda (Bryan) Cajka, Jacob (Kelby Kale) Isaacson, Joshua Isaacson, Charlotte Perez, Jason Jacobs II, and Zachary Isaacson; his great-grandchildren, Rhett Lockwood, Kaynen Bindra, and three great grandchildren on the way. Also surviving is his sibling, Clifford (Sharon) Isaacson, his brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law; William (Phyllis), Ralph (Rhoda), Charles (Norma), and Nancy Kesling along with many loving nieces and nephews. But, for Ike, family was not defined by just the relatives you had – more often it was the people you collected along the way that he loved and cared for as well as those who loved and cared for him.

Visitation is scheduled Wednesday, October 3rd from 2–8 p.m. at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43614 with Northern Light Lodge No. 40 F. & A.M services at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 4th at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1853 South Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43609. Memorial contributions may be made in Ike's honor to Shriner's Hospital for Children and/or a charity of your choice. My brother-in-law was the BEST! He was a great friend who I loved to be around. We managed many times to get in trouble with our wives for a drop-in at the corner bar or the Maumee Elks Club. After we moved to Las Vegas our visits were rare, but, the height of enjoyment. When he visited LV, I always thanked him for stimulating out local economy and promised to keep an eye on his investment. Anyhow, Norma & I and all the members of our family will miss is friendship, his wit (always had a new joke), and his great sense of humor! May God have a special place for you and Mary.
