Edward J. "EJ" Toth
Edward J. Toth, "EJ", 89, of Oregon, Ohio, gained his wings on Monday, August 23, 2021. Ed was born on April 2, 1932 to Steve and Mary Toth. He married Virgene Dittmer on June 21, 1956 at Washington Congregational Church, they enjoyed 65 years of marrige together.
Ed attended Hathaway Elementary School and went on to graduate from Macomber High School where his love of machining began. He entered the United States Navy as a machinist and continued to expand his talents working with his hands. He served on the U.S.S. Askari which gave him the opportunity to travel to one his favorite places, Japan as well as other exotic ports. He was a Veteran of the Korean War. After the Navy, he began his career at Toledo Edison working his way up to Supervisor of the Machine Shop. He forged many long-time friendships during his nearly 40 years with the company.
Ed was involved with numerous clubs and committees through the years and served as an officer regularly. He was President of the Askari-30 Club, a member of the Placers, the Eagles, the Greater Birmingham VFW 4906, Conn-Weisenberger American Legion Post 587, the Democratic Central Committee,Ward 18.
His happy place was at his family farm on Route 2 where anyone driving by who knew him or not could stop in for a hand shake, to talk and laugh, have a cold one and work on whatever thing needed fixing at the time but mostly cars. Some of his hobbies included farming, snowmobiling, bowling, fishing but mostly he liked taking his classic car, his 1965 Bonneville, to car shows with his friends on weekends. Ed always stepped up when asked and where needed. He had a genuinely kind soul and will be missed immensely by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Virgene; son, Steve (Kim High); grandson, David; great-grandson, Antonio; granddaugher, Tara Justus; his adopted son, Shaun Duncan; and daughter, Cheryl Toth.
Friends are invited to visit on Monday August 30, 2021 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave. where funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Military honors and burial will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Donations in Ed's name may be made to the Greater Birmingham VFW 4906 or Conn-Weisenberger American Legion Post 587.
