Erma Gerding Obituary
Erma Ann
Erma Ann Gerding, 88 years, of Toledo Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday morning May 6, 2013, at Heartland of Waterville Care Center in Waterville Ohio. She was born in Toledo Ohio to Eugene and Theresa McCarthy. Erma attended Immaculate Conception grade school and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. She and her brother, Bud McCarthy, owned and operated the Bridge Café on the corner of Summer St and Walbridge Ave, which was started by their and father before prohibition and reopened in 1933. The business sold in 1988.
Erma was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Gerding in 1991; her parents; sister, Mary Mullen, and her brother, Eugene "Bud" McCarthy; she survived by her son, Paul (Gabriella Shah) Gerding; granddaughters, Magan and Madison Gerding; special friends, Sister Mary Katherine Garvin OSU, Randy and Erika Martin, Jayesh and Isabella Shah; niece and nephew, Henry and Sherry Schermbeck. Also surviving are many other nieces and nephews.
At Erma's request there will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday May 14, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. where the family will greet guests starting at 10:15 a.m. Memorials may take the form of a contribution to either the Ursuline Convent or to Immaculate Conception Church. Aunt Erma, I will miss your smiles and laughter. I will never forget the parties at grandma's and grandpa's (Sherry Schermbeck &Henry Schermbeck -My grandparents) where you were playing games and making jokes with all of us! I miss you already, I love you.

Erma was my Godmother and Bud was my Godfather. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I remember growing up and every birthday and christmas erma would send me $3. She was the sweetest lady.

We had many wonderful vacations with Erma and our daughter, Chrissy, going along. We had lots of laughs and enjoyed having her join us on family get-togethers and holidays. Erma loved fun and we will always treasure the memories we made. Peace and love to you, Paul. You took excellent care of your Mom and she loved you very much.
