Evelyn Manore Obituary
Evelyn Mae Manore, 100, of Seckinger Court, Toledo, OH passed away April 11, 2023, at the Kingston Care Center of Sylvania where she had been a resident for the last two (2) years. Evelyn was born May 17, 1922, to Elsie H. (Kreckman) and Harold E. Berdue. She was a 1940 graduate of DeVilbiss High School. After graduating from high school, she began working in the Toledo area as a seamstress.
Evelyn married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, John James Manore, in May 1942, and they were married for 52 years up until his death 1994. While her husband was overseas in World War II, she cared for their infant daughter, worked for the American Red Cross, and was a neighborhood Civil Defense Warden. After the war she continued raising her growing family which came to include three boys.
Evelyn was the cornerstone of the family and was active in all of her children's lives and activities, including being a Girl Scout Leader, as well as a Cub Scout and Webelos Den Mother. She was a tireless volunteer solicitor for multiple charities including the March of Dimes which she began her involvement in 1939 -1940, and proudly continued through the 1970's. Evelyn was also a sports aficionado watching all levels of sports well into her late 90's. She loved fishing with her husband, and was also an accomplished bowler - being president of her bowling league for close to 50 years, and bowling in a league well into her 80th year.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband and her son-in-law. Surviving are her daughter, Sharon (Jerome) Ligas of Pittsburgh; her sons, John (Jennifer) Manore III of Toledo, Scott (Pam) Manore of Temperance, Jeff Manore also of Toledo; and ten (10) grandchildren; seventeen (17) great-grandchildren; and one (1) great-great-grandchild.
It was a long life, well lived…
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday April 17, 2023 at the Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. James Basik Officiant. Professional arrangements are being handled by the Ansberg-West Funeral Directors, 419-472-7633. www.ansberg-west.com
