Everett Garrison Obituary
GARRISON Everett "Gary" Everett "Gary" Garrison, age 89, of Maumee, passed away November 7, 2007, at Parkcliffe Community in Toledo. He was born June 3, 1918 at Divernon, Illinois, the son of Charles and Mamie (York) Garrison. He received degrees from Illinois State University (Industrial Arts) and from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana (Mechanical/Industrial Engineering). He taught Industrial Arts at Morris (Illinois) High School, and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Illinois. In June of 1951, he accepted a position as Cost engineer with the Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Company in Toledo. He was employed by L.O.F. 32 years, retiring in 1983 as director of Engineering Planning. He was a member and president of the American Materials Handling Society; was active in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; and the Toledo, Ohio and National Professional Engineering Societies. On three occasions, he presented papers at the National Convention of the American Society of Plant Engineers. He was president of the Toledo Exchange Club in 1966 when its membership attained recognition as the third largest in the nation. Memberships included the University of Illinois Alumni Association, and the P.G.A. World Golf Hall of Fame of which he and his wife were among the ninety original founding sponsors. Other memberships included the Elks in Maumee, the Quality of Life group in Maumee, a lifetime membership in the Pinehurst Country Club, and the Village Chapel of Pinehurst, NC. He was a member of the Maumee United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher for a number of years. He also served on various committees, participated in the Pals group, and was a lay-hospital visitor. His interests included golf, duplicate bridge, poetry writing, genealogy, gardening, reading and travel. He and his wife crossed the Atlantic many times, frequently in search of information relative to her ancestors who all emigrated from Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruby (Bruninga) Garrison; son, Douglas (Dinah) Garrison; daughters, JoAnn (Jay) Stowe of Marietta, Ohio; Janette (Walter) Tharp of Huntington, Indiana; Jayne (Joseph) Kotey of Naperville, Illinois; one grandson, Barry Stowe, M.D., of Charlotte, North Carolina; five granddaughters: Jennifer (Marc) Konesco of Carmel, IN; Erika (Matt) LeMar of Huntington, IN; Nicole (Eric) Hemmer of Denver, CO; Lacey (Sam) Neal of Washington DC; and Alicia Tharp of Huntington, IN; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Marissa LeMar and JoEllen and Camden Konesco. He is survived by a brother, Gerald of Champaign, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation and a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Maumee United Methodist Church, 405 Sackett Street, Maumee, Ohio. His body was donated to the University of Toledo Medical Center. Contributions may be made to the Maumee United Methodist Church, Heartland Home Health Care and Hospice, or a charity of the donor's choice.
