Fatima
Fatima Simon, loving mother, grandmother (sito), sister and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Fatima was born in Lebanon in 1924, lived briefly in Paris, France and was raised in Alberta, Canada.
She married, Albert Simon in 1949, and moved to the USA, and mothered 6 children. Fatima was a loving, caring, and giving person with an enormous passion for every person she met. She was very active in the
Islamic Center of Toledo in Perrysburg where she served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary, chaired multiple events including their Annual Fall and Spring Dinners, lead tours and served on the Board of Elders. Fatima was a pioneer and an original founder of both the Mosques in Edmonton, Alberta, and Toledo, Ohio. She was also active in the Ladies Shrine (Dendara Court 10), Scottish Right, Eastern Star, International Faith and GTAAA. Fatima was known as "the best Arabic cook in the world," and for loving and feeding everyone. She loved to take cruises, travel, play bridge, the arts and was an avid reader. Fatima's biggest passion of all was her family.
Fatima was preceded in death by her daughter, Bedia, and her son, Thomas. She is survived by her lifelong best friend and confidant, Albert Simon, and their 4 children, Jamille (Janie), Miriam (Don Collins), Robert (Lisa), and Richard; grandchildren, Jeff, Jimmy, Janelle, Jason, Tiffany, Matt, Brad, Katie, Clayton, Stefen, Jenny, and Nicole, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to join the family for visitation on Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Service conducted at 6:00 p.m., at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, OH. Visitation with the family at the Islamic Center of Toledo, Perrysburg, OH will be held on Friday, September 27 at 12:30 p.m. Friday prayer services with be held at 1:30 p.m. with
funeral prayers at 2:00 p.m. Procession to Ottawa Hills Memorial Park will follow.
The family suggests contributions in Fatima's memory be offered to Shriner's Hospital for Children or Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, Perrysburg, Ohio. Online condolences may be offered to the family at
