Frederick Adkins Obituary

ADKINS
Frederick Addison III
Frederick Addison Adkins III, 75, peacefully passed on February 2, 2016, surrounded by family at his home in Ramsey, MN after a courageous battle with cancer. His affinity for numbers led to a teaching career at Coon Rapids High School, where he taught math for 33 years. As the head coach for the girls' soccer team, Fred coached 460 games from 1978-1999, leading the Cardinals to win 10 conference titles, 10 section titles and 2 state championships. He was a skilled woodworker and had a ready set of puns to use while lending help with carpentry projects. He enjoyed dancing and outdoor activities like golfing, fishing and gardening.
Born on the Mexico border in Mercedes, Texas, Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Addison Adkins II and Florence (nee Henschen) Adkins. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jeanne Adkins of Ramsey, MN. He is also survived by JoAnne Adkins of Waupaca, WI, mother of children Michelle Neeb (John) of Columbia Heights, MN; Frederick Addison Adkins IV (Stacie, grandchildren Amanda, Brianna and Carissa) of Indiana, PA; and Collette Adkins (grandchildren Bryce and Sierra) of Blaine, MN. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Strawn (Dale); Jeanne's children, Chris (Kim), Matt (Jenny), Deb (Brian), Jennifer, Lisa and grandchildren, Kyler, Ashley, Bethany, Mitchell, Kassidy, Karissa, Lauren and Patrick; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
His funeral will be at Washburn-McReavy's Coon Rapids Chapel (1827 Coon Rapids Blvd.) on February 6 at 4 p.m. with visitation from 2-4 p.m. Memorials can be directed to the Coon Rapids Community Scholarship Association (Attn: Coach Fred Adkins Memorial Scholarship, P.O. Box 48144, Coon Rapids, MN 55448) or donor's choice.

I knew Frederick by his middle name, Addison. We called him Addie.
He ran around with our group from BGHS in Bowling Green, Ohio.
He was almost alway smiling and a big part of our good times there.
It was nice to read about his teaching and coaching career. His photo looks just like I remember him.
Thanks for sending a remembrance at the anniversary of his passing.

Our high school days were more enjoyable because "Addy" (as we called him then) was with us. You have my heartfelt sympathy.
