George McKisson Obituary

McKISSON

George F.

George F. McKisson, 95, died June 29, 2014, in Northport, MI. He was born in Toledo in 1919, in the Old West End.

His wife, Christine Close McKisson, preceded him in death in April of this year. They were married in Carmel, CA, in 1942.

George entered the U.S. Army in 1941, and served in the European and Pacific Theater in WWII. He was discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1946.

After military service he was employed by the Toledo Steel Tube Company and became vice president of Sales until the company was sold in 1968. He then became a manufacturer representative until his retirement in 1981.

He was a former member and president of the Toledo Country Club. He was also a member of the Leland Country Club. Golf, fishing, hunting and woodworking were his hobbies.

He was a founding member of St. Michael in the Hills Episcopal Church. In addition to serving on the Vestry, he headed many fund drives.

George has two surviving sons, George Jr. (Sharon) and Allan (Mary). Son, Daniel, died in 2010. Also surviving are grandchildren, Hank, Mike, Kate, Christopher, Maggie and Seth.

He was as good a husband, father and grandfather as anyone could hope for. He was always available to hit fly balls, have a chat or offer insightful advice. Family and friends called him "Biz," a nickname he picked up as a youngster because he was "busy as a bee."

Contributions to the Leelanau Conservancy, P.O. Box 1007, Leland, MI 49654 will honor George's love of the Leland, MI area.

A graveside service will be held in Toledo later this summer.

Arrangements are with the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.

I caddied for Mr. McKisson at the Toledo Country Club back in the mid 1970s. He was a very good golfer and a super nice guy! My condolences to his family.

I just heard of your loss. My childhood memory of your father is that he was always delightful and well-turned-out....a snappy dresser.
Thinking of you,

I always will remember the wonderful times playing golf on Amelia Island with his son Geof and attorney Klein. As I recall, when Biz was my partner, we always won. We would go to the oyster bar after and enjoy buckets of oyster and a few brewskis - what fun! Biz, you will be missed as you were truly one of life's winners.
