Gerrie Strick Obituary

Gerrie Strick

June 28, 1935 - May 26, 2025

Gerrie (Geraldine) Strick, born on June 28, 1935, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025, at the Franciscan Care Center. Gerrie was born and raised in the Polish Village, the only child to Pauline and Anthony Spillis. She attended St. Hedwig's and Central Catholic High School graduating in 1953. She had a circle of friends from her school days that she stayed connected with and traveled with over the years, which her family referred to as the "Golden Girls".

Gerrie married Jim Strick in 1955, and they moved to Point Place where she lived until 2012. Surviving are her 6 children, Cheryl (Dave) Toska, Paul, Jim (Julie) Strick, Michelle, Jackie and Madelyn (Dana) Rawson. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and former husband, Jim Strick.

Gerrie was employed in sales at Tiedtke's and secretarial work at Toledo Trust during high school and shortly thereafter. She rejoined Toledo Trust as a teller in 1970 after her children were born and remained there until 1988 when it was then known as Society Bank. She moved out of the banking industry and began working at the University of Toledo where she retired in 2006.

Gerrie was active at St. John the Baptist Catholic parish and school when her children attended school there. She enjoyed cheering on her children, grandchildren and most recently her great-grandchildren in the many activities and sports they participated in during their elementary, high school and college years.

Gerrie donated her body to the University of Toledo College of Medicine through the Anatomical Donation Program. Services will be Saturday, July 5th, at Regina Coeli Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with a memorial Mass following at 11 a.m.

Even though we lived down the street on 288th, I didn't get to know your mom until she moved into Oakleaf, where our mom's (Rosemarie Skorupski) resided. We would see her in the lobby and she always had a smile on her face, and had nothing but nice things to say. My mom was so happy to see her. I am so sorry to hear of her passing.
