James Murray Obituary

MURRAY Dr. James A. Dr. James A. Murray, age 78, of Fostoria, Ohio and Punta Gorda, FL died on Thursday, June 28, 2007, at his home in Fostoria. He was born on January 31, 1929, in Pittsburg, PA to Walter and Margretta (Byers) Murray, both preceded him in death, and married Norma J. (Jones) in 1955 in Philadelphia. Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Norma J.; sons, Scott K. Murray, Gainesville, FL and Stuart P. Murray, Fostoria; grandson, Dalton J. Murray, Fostoria; granddaughter, Shana Elizabeth Hancock, Ft. Wayne, IN and great-grandson, Ashton. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lindsay Elizabeth; son, James Addison Jr. and his brother. Dr. Murray was a 1951 graduate of Grove City College, Grove City, PA and a 1955 graduate of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He interned at Harrisburg Poly Clinic Hospital, PA, then served in the U.S. Navy as a Medical Officer in the Submarine Division for 2 years. He was a family physician in Fostoria, Ohio for 41 years and was on the Fostoria Community Hospital staff until his retirement in 1999. During that time he served several terms as Chief of Staff. He was a delegate to the Ohio State Medical Association for many years, Deputy Coroner of Seneca Co., was Fostoria Schools' Team Physician for many years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Fostoria, American Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, Ohio Academy of Family Medicine, Seneca County Medical Society, Fostoria Elks, Valley Creek Lodge, Fostoria Country Club and in Punta Gorda, FL he was member of St. Andrews South Golf Club. In 1994 he was honored by the Ohio State Football Hall of Fame with the Outstanding Team Physicians Award and in 2002 he was given the Pro Medica Health Systems award of Excellence in Medical practice. In 1976 Dr. and Mrs. Murray established a Medical Scholarship Fund within the Fostoria Community Hospital Foundation to assist Fostoria area students to pursue medical careers. A Memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church in Fostoria with the Rev. Beth Zuehlke presiding. If so desired, memorials may be made to the Murray Scholarship Fund C/O Fostoria Community Hospital Foundation, 501 Van Buren St. Fostoria, Ohio 44830 in memory of Dr. James A. Murray. What a genuine privilege to have met Dr. James (and Norma) in 1999 and to have the fortune of making friends with them. Our memories of him will always be in our hearts. He was a special man with a special talent of kindness towards others. We will always miss him.
