Janet Muto Obituary

Janet Marie Muto

Janet Marie Muto, born Janet Marie Lawless, on February 9, 1936, in Pontiac, Michigan, to Patrick and Mary Zimmerman Lawless, passed away peacefully February 23, 2025, at the age of 89.

Janet was the devoted wife of the late Charles John Muto whom she married in 1969. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Duross; and is survived by her sister, Barbara Fairbrother; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Janet's early years were marked by the loss of her mother at a young age. Raised by her father, Patrick, and his sister, Kathleen, with the support of many loving aunts and uncles, Janet's childhood was one of resilience and strength of family.

After graduating from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, she taught kindergarten at Wisner School in Pontiac. Then she met Charlie.

In retirement Janet and Charlie found joy in collecting books. Together with their book friends they enjoyed many happy days.

A life long lover of music, Janet was an active member of the Toledo Symphony Chorus for many years.

A devout member of Gesu Parish, Janet's deep faith served as a constant source of strength, particularly during the challenges of her later years.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to her niece, Jane Duross, and to Janet's many friends for their unwavering love, compassionate support, and cherished friendship. Additionally, the family is grateful to the residents, Ashanti Hospice, and staff in every department at Otterbein Sunset House.

Family and friends may visit March 6, 2025, from 10-11 a.m. at GESU Catholic Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd. The Funeral Mass will follow in the church at 11 a.m. The Mass will be livestreamed on the GESU Church website. Janet will be laid to rest next to her husband at Toledo Memorial Park.

Memorial donations may be given to GESU Catholic Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
