John Dillon Obituary

DILLON John Patrick John Patrick Dillon, age 59, of Toledo, Ohio, died on Monday, February 25, 2008 at the University of Toledo Medical Center. Born on March 26, 1948, in Toledo, OH, to parents, John N. and Robin E. Dillon, "Pat" stayed pretty close to his roots all his life. Pat grew up in Maumee, OH and graduated from St. Joseph Parish School in 1962. He attended Bowsher High School after a move to the South End of Toledo in 1964. Maumee saw Pat's glory days as a young baseball phenomenon, both in Little League and Jr. Knothole. Pat played first base and pitched his way to fame in the State finals, and it was not unusual to meet people who remembered watching or playing with Pat over four decades later. "A good friend" are words used to describe Pat, and his friends and family knew they could count on him for his time and conversation. All topics were on the table....as long as the team you were pulling for was from his favorite sport's city, Boston. Of course, you were allowed a "Go Irish" anytime Notre Dame was on the field. Pat's compassion and caring were most evident as he cared for his ailing father in the last years of his life. "He gave Dad the best in-home care a daughter could ask for...24/7" stated his sister, Daria. Pat is survived by his loving siblings, Daria (Bill Hellebuyck), Caroline and David, and niece and nephew, Cheryl Henry (Ryan) and David Hellebuyck (Heather) and great niece, Grace Henry. John Patrick will be buried on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery on Parkside Blvd., Toledo, OH. Blanchard-Strabler Funeral Home (419) 269-1111 is assisting the family.
