John Hetrick Obituary

John Hetrick

10/31/1949 - 05/12/2024

John Hetrick led a life full of passion and dedication, leaving behind a legacy that touched the hearts of many. Born on October 31, 1949, in Akron, Ohio, John's journey was one of resilience and strength, marked by his service to his country during the Vietnam War. His bravery was evident not only on the battlefield but also in his courageous battle against cancer, which sadly came to an end on May 12, 2024.

Raised in Akron, John was a proud graduate of Garfield High School. An avid sports enthusiast, John found immense joy in cheering for his favorite Cleveland sports teams, particularly the Cleveland Guardians. John's love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for golfing and sailing. Living on the water brought him a sense of peace and contentment, where he found solace and excitement amidst the waves. Despite being a reserved man who didn't say much, John had a unique ability to connect with people on a deeper level, leaving a lasting impression with his genuine kindness and warmth.

Beyond his love for sports, John had a knack for craftsmanship, particularly in woodworking. His creativity and dedication shone through in his work, reflecting his commitment to excellence. In his career as a salesperson with Pepco, John's charm and skills endeared him to many, forging lasting connections with colleagues and customers alike.

However, John's true legacy lies in the warmth and kindness he extended to those around him. His gentle nature and genuine compassion touched the lives of all who knew him, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. John is survived by his niece, Mary (Jeannine) Hetrick-Ratliffe; his nephew, Scott Hetrick and his dear friends, Alice and Jim Walsh. He was preceded in death by his brother, George Robert Hetrick; his mother, Elizabeth McKay Hetrick; and his father, George Irvin Hetrick.

Although John may no longer be with us in person, his spirit lives on in the love and friendship he shared with others. His legacy serves as a reminder of the power of kindness and the impact one person can have on the world around them. May his soul find peace, and may his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him. Memorials may be made in John's memory to the Haven of Rest home in Akron. Friends and family will be received from 3-5 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Road, Rossford, OH 43460. A celebration of life will be from 5-5:30 p.m.
