John Malkoski Obituary
February 19, 1949 - September 17, 2023
John (John) Robert Malkoski, Sr. passed away on September 17, 2023 in Ebeid Hospice surrounded by his family. He was born on February 19,1949 to Leon and Ruth (Dunmore) Malkoski in Phoenixville, PA the third of four children.
John graduated from Bishop Luers High School (Ft. Wayne, IN) in 1967 and the University of St. Francis (IN) in 1971. John spent 41 years in the insurance industry, starting in 1972 with Motorists Mutual and retiring as VP of Claims in 2013 from German Mutual Insurance. He began his career in Cleveland, moved to Fremont and Columbus before settling in Toledo. He had memberships in the Profit Loss Research Bureau and Toledo Claims Association. Upon retirement, John turned his life-long love of baseball into a part-time job working 7 years at the Toledo Mud Hens as an Official Scorer for the International League. John was a member of St. Michaels in the Hills Episcopal church.
John was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Mark.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Jones Schuele); son, John Jr. (Diane) of Toledo; daughter, Julie (Tim) of Bothell, WA; sister, Marjorie (Malkoski) Brown of San Antonio, TX; brother, Paul (Mim) of Aurora, CO; stepson, Craig (Andrea) Schuele of Toledo; grandsons, John III (Jack) of Omaha, NE, Ian, and William; step-grandchildren, Ezekiel of Tempe, AZ, Michaela, Gabriel, Hannah, Nathanael, Jacob and Leah; the mother of his children, Bobbie Kanney of St. Henry, OH; and 3 nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lakes of Sylvania and Ebeid Hospice for their loving care.
A private celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in John's name to the Parkinson's Foundation (parkinsons.org) or the University of St. Francis (giving.sf.edu).

My family looked at John like family. He and our Dad worked together in the insurance industry and both were lifelong Cardinals fans. I'll never forget my trip to St. Louis with my Dad and John to see new Busch Stadium, and also when John and I both were in Philly and watched the Phillies win the division (on their way to a WS championship). His love of the game helped me appreciate baseball that much more. He was a soft spoken, kind man with an amazing sense of humor. John will hold a special place in my heart forever. Prayers to his family during the difficult time.
