Kenneth WEISLAK Obituary

WEISLAK Kenneth J. Kenneth J. Weislak, age 63, of Perrysburg, passed away unexpectedly on Monday afternoon, October 4, 2010, while running at Side Cut Metro Park. Ken was a devoted and high spirited family man and tireless hard worker who was proud to have built 4 houses from the ground up for his family. Kenny's magnetic personality and open, unpretentious demeanor blessed him with innumerable friendships which he relished especially his lifelong grade school buddies he grew up with in North Toledo. Ken was a true people person who found the good in everyone. He loved to be around people and where the action was. He loved meeting new people and getting to know them over cups and cups of coffee. He could (and did!) talk to anyone and everyone and found it easy to make new friends. Kenny was a Journeyman Union Carpenter with Local 1138 for more than 30 years. After retiring as a carpenter in 1996, he became a building inspector for Wood County where he was currently employed. He is preceded in death by his parents, mother, Helen (Horen) Weislak-Bollinger, father, Chester Weislak; step-father, Delmer Bollinger and special mother-in-law, Theresa Bonk. Kenny is survived by his cherished wife of 40 years, Joanne; his son and best friend, Lance of San Francisco; and daughter, Dr. Lisa Burke (Hal) of Sylvania and his two grandsons, Jack and Ben. He is also survived by his siblings, Jim Weislak (Ruth), Caroline (Richard) Flaczynski, Marty (Jennie) Weislak and Joy (Jim) Wozniak and his special brother-in-law, Dennis (Beth) Bonk, Dan Bonk and many special nieces and nephews, Julia, Jimmy, Julie, Chris, Michelle, Devin and Robert. He was a member of the River View Yacht Club in Toledo and Blessed John XXIII Parish in Perrysburg. Ken was proud to be an alumnus of Woodward High School, Class of 1965. He was an avid Michigan football fan and season ticketholder. He enjoyed exercising in the metro park, his music on his iPod, classic cars, woodworking and being the comic foil to his grandson's antics. We'll greatly miss you Kenny and your fun-loving spirit. Friends will be received from 4-9 p.m. on Thursday and from 3-9 p.m. on Friday in the Witzler - Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary, Perrysburg (419-874-3133) where a Vigil Service will begin at 7:15 p.m. on Friday evening. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2010 followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed John XXIII in Perrysburg. Burial will follow in St. Rose Cemetery. Condolences may be made directly to the family by visiting: www.witzlershank.com

Joanne, Lance, Lisa, and family -- What a terrible shock. I have so many fond memories of Kenny from your family's friendship with mine since those first Vogel days. You have all come to mind so many times this week, and there is simply a hole in the world where Ken used to be. Our hearts go out to all of you, and we wish you as much peace and comfort as possibe from your faith and each other. With much love -- Melissa (Henry) and John Wendt

I was so shocked to learn of Ken's sudden passing. My thoughts went immediately to his family & of the horrible loss you must be feeling. My next thoughts went back many years to all the fun we had on Vogel Drive! I will keep those fond memories tucked away for safe keeping. My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time. God bless you.

Joanne and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult loss of your beloved husband, father, and grandfather. We last saw Kenny at the Perrysburg car cruise in August, and had a great visit with him. He so enjoyed life, and was always full of energy, enthusiasm, smiling all the time. This is the man we will remember. May all your wonderful, loving memories help you through each day. Kenny will be greatly missed on this earth, but he will always be in your hearts. Cris and LeAnna

Mrs Weislak & Family - I am one of those many people Ken met on the jobsites in Wood County. He was fabulous to work with & talk to. Always a smile & kindness. I was honored to have him inspect my home as I was building it 8 yrs. ago. This is a terrible loss for all in the construction area. I am so very sorry for your loss. My prayers & thoughts are with you all. Lisa Irving / Northwood

Our deepest sympathy to the Weislak family. We were so fortunate to have talked to Kenny a couple of months ago at the "super cruise". He was so friendly. His write up fit him to a "T". We have known him since Freemans. A great guy who will be missed.
