Leland H. Bates

Leland H. Bates, age 80, of Holland passed away on October 29, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital. He was born on February 4, 1925, to Harley E. and Bertha (Schiffer) Bates in Toledo. Leland married Charlotte Gibson on March 4, 1948, in Angola, IN. He was a WWII veteran serving in the US Navy on Midway Island and at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Leland worked for AH Lumm as a sheet metal journeyman, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the American Legion Post #553, Adams Twp., and a Charter member of Providence Lutheran Church. Leland was a skilled craftsman that loved to garden, he was a devoted husband, father, grand-father and great-grandfather that will be greatly missed.
Surviving is his loving wife of 57 years, Charlotte Bates; children, Christine L. (John) Reneger, David L. (Deborah) Bates, Duane G. (Terri) Bates; grandchildren, Angela (Israel) Montemayor, Jason (Stephanie) Reneger, Kelly Bates, Julie (Mike) Zaleski, Jeffery (Sandra) Bates, Alan Bates; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Lila (Elmer) Szparka, Shirley Hall; brother, Edward (Linda) Bates.
Friends will be received in the Neville Funeral Home Southwest Chapel, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland (419-865-8879) from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2005. Funeral services will be held at Providence Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2005. Burial Springfield Twp. Cemetery. Those planning and expression of sympathy are asked to consider Providence Lutheran Church.
