Leonard LOGSDON Obituary

LOGSDON Leonard J. Leonard J. Logsdon, 80, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Heartland of Perrysburg. He was born December 21, 1930 in Columbus, Ohio to Clayton C. and Thelma Marie (Heck) Logsdon. He leaves behind his loving wife, Phyllis and they were married for 61 years. Leonard retired from the Perrysburg Chrysler Plant after 22 years as a skilled tradesman. He was a proud and faithful union member and after retirement, he served several years as an officer of the UAW 1435 retirees' chapter. He previously lived in Kenton, Ohio and was employed as a tradesman at the North American Rockwell Plant. He also owned an insurance agency representing the Buckeye Insurance Company. At the Rockwell plant he was a charter member of Local 109 of the Allied Industrial Workers AFL-CIO and over the years he served in many different local union positions. While an officer in 1957, he served on the committee that negotiated local 109's first pension agreement. The committee was very proud of this accomplishment and many members now enjoy this great benefit. Leonard also held other union positions. He was past president of the Hardin County Labor council and past president of the Northwest Ohio Joint Labor Council of the AIW-AFL-CIO. His passion was union organizing and he succeeded in unionizing several plants. He strongly supported workers joining together to bargain jointly for fair compensation for their labor and just as important their dignity and self-esteem. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons, Leonard R. "Randy" (Susan) Logsdon of Columbus, Ohio and Timothy W. Logsdon of Kentucky; daughter, Vickie Karriker of North Carolina; grand-children, Lauren and Megan Logsdon and Hannah and Jacob Karriker; great-granddaughter, Jaitlyn Karriker; brother, Jack Logsdon of Texas and sisters, Patricia Hulet of Texas and Kay Miller of North Carolina. Leonard was preceded in death by brothers, George of Florida and Donald of Findlay, Ohio and sister, Sue Jackman of Findlay, Ohio. Friends will be received from 2-6 P.M. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary, Perrysburg (419-874-3133) where services will begin at 6:00 P.M. with Rev. My sympathy in the loss of Leonard, he was such a nice guy. I always enjoyed visiting with him when he would come up and buy statues for the yard. My husband (Roger) passed in january so I what a hole it leaves in your heart. I will pray for you, Patty Fowler (Fowlers Gift Shop)

Aunt Phyllis, Randy, Vicki, Tim - my sincere sympathies at the passing away of your beloved husband and father. I know the Logsdon's were always "spread out" distance-wise but I have some fond memories of when we were very young and you lived in Kenton and we'd get together. Also I'll always treasure how much time Uncle Len and Aunt Phyllis spent with my mom and dad during my dad's final years of life ... and Uncle Len playing "photographer" at dad's funeral, etc. Love & Hugs - Donita Logsdon Nau & Family

Our deepest sympathies to the Logsdon family. Len was the best "over the fence" neighbor a person could ever wish for.
