Leroy Chamberlain Obituary

CHAMBERLAIN

Leroy

Leroy Chamberlain, age 82, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away on December 24, 2013, at Wood Haven Health Care Center.

Leroy was born July 18, 1931, in Rudolph, Ohio to the late Frank Alfred and Hazel (Reese) Chamberlain. He was the fourth of six children and the last to leave his mother's nest at the ripe age of 31, when he wed Margaret (Newlove) on September 3, 1962. Leroy maintained a very close relationship with his mother and enjoyed daily lunches at her Rudolph home, until her death in 1978.

After graduation from Liberty High School in 1949, Leroy served his country in the United States Army for two years. He was stationed in Korea during the war. He served as a cook and often enjoyed recounting tales of serving food for up to 500

soldiers per day.

Upon discharge from the Army, Leroy returned home to Rudolph, Ohio and began his 42 year employment with Liberty Grain and Mid-Wood. Leroy was also a Liberty Township trustee for 20 years.

Shortly after retirement, Leroy embarked on his most cherished role in working for his brother-in-law at Joe Newlove Realty and Auctions (Wauseon, OH) in the

"geriatric service division." He performed a variety of odd jobs, but most importantly, relished the camaraderie of their crew. Leroy also enjoyed his work for Al Newlove Realty in Bowling Green, where he set-up and retrieved "for sale" signs.

Leroy was a member of the Portage Center Arbor

Gleaners #542. He enjoyed playing cards, watching sporting events and always loved a good joke. In younger years, he participated in bowling leagues and western square dancing. Leroy's two grandchildren, Lillian (10) and Max (6), were his pride and joy and provided him with companionship and entertainment.

In May of 2013, Leroy was chosen and participated in Honor Flight of Northwestern Ohio.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Lloyd and Lyle Chamberlain. Surviving are his loving wife of 52 years, Margaret Chamberlain; son, Mark (Cammi) Chamberlain of Bowling Green; daughter, Michele Chamberlain of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Lillian and Maxwell Chamberlain; brother, Glen (Cecilia) of Bowling Green; sisters, Janet (Richard, deceased) Swarms of Wayne, Pauline (Walter, deceased) Heilmann of Whitehouse; sisters-in-law, Betty (Lloyd, deceased) Chamberlain of Wayne, Doris (Lyle, deceased) Chamberlain of Wayne, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as countless friends.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Honor Flight of Northwestern Ohio (P.O. Box 23018, Toledo, Ohio 43623) or St. Aloysius Elementary and Junior High School (148 South Enterprise St., Bowling Green, Ohio 43402).

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Wood Haven Health Care Center of Bowling Green and Heartland Hospice of Perrysburg for their loving and compassionate care.
