Marianne KROMENACKER Obituary

KROMENACKER Marianne Barteck Marianne Barteck Kromenacker passed peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord on May 3, 2010, after a valiant and courageous 13 month battle for life. Born at home on January 21, 1937, to Thomas and Margaret (Takacs) Barteck, Marianne attended Holy Rosary Grade School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1955. She married the love of her life, Mel (Tip) Kromenacker on November 12, 1955. Tip and Marianne lived their life together in west Toledo where they raised three daughters, Kim, Kay and Kristie. Marianne was an accomplished wife, mother and homemaker. She was an excellent seamstress, cook and baker (always from scratch), even baking her daughters' wedding cakes. She was very active in her children's lives, volunteering at school, scouts and enjoying the friendship of every visitor to her home. More recently she was proud to make lunches for the homeless. She enjoyed many, many family vacations, both those close to home at Devil's Lake, as well as traveling extensively around the country, including 3 trips to Hawaii. Marianne worked several years as a medical transcriptionist during the 1970s and in the retail industry during the 1980s. However, it was her family that brought her the greatest joy, especially her grandchildren. Many mornings, afternoons and evenings were spent at football, basketball, soccer and lacrosse games, swim meets, dance recitals and parades. She loved having a grandchild spend the night, going to the movies or just out to lunch. With her health failing this past year Marianne felt blessed and was forever grateful for the time she was able to spend with her family, especially the daily visits from her husband and daughters. She leaves behind and will be sadly missed by her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, Mel (Tip); daughters, Kim Ellis, Kay (Joe) Murnen and Kristie (Chris) Pooley; grandchildren, Kasey, Emily, Adam and Graham Ellis, Josh (Shelley), John and Stephanie Murnen. She is also survived by her sister, Christy Barteck; brother, Anthony Barteck; sisters-in-law, Mildred Barteck, Margaret (Peggy) Barteck, Judy (Larry) Meilke and Janet (Jim) Blanchard and brothers-in-law, John (Kellie) Kromenacker and Bob (Pam) Kromenacker. Marianne was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Margaret, siblings, Margaret, Val, Richard and Joseph Barteck and her nieces, Valerie and Jackie Barteck. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 7, 2010, from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 2950 Ilger Avenue, with visitation from 9:00 am at the church. Marianne's final resting place will be at Calvary Cemetery. The family would like to thank the many, many healthcare professionals who provided Marianne with loving care over the past 13 months. Dear Tip and family,

I had the privilege of knowing Marianne from the first grade at Holy Rosary and until we became young mothers. She was always the most interesting person in the room. As I recall, she was a Phil Donahue fan, travelled extensively, and seem to know more about the world and child rearing than any of us. We share your sadness. We were all blessed to have known her.
