Mary Harp Obituary

HARP Mary A. Mary A. Harp, 84, of Toledo, OH, was called to Heaven by our Lord, Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Waterford Commons. Mary was employed as a cashier with Kroger Foods for more than 30 years, retiring in 1991. She was proud to be involved in the community and enjoyed writing many letters that were published in the Editorial Section of the Toledo Blade. During WWII Mary worked hard to support the war effort, and was featured in the May 30, 2004, issue of the Toledo Blade titled "Rosie the Riveter". She had a heart of gold and a backbone of steel. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Rae (Bill) Elvey and Cynthia Joann (Joe) Vincent; sons Van Allen (Patricia), Michael John (Darcy) and Jeffrey Paul (Nancy) Harp; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren and niece and nephew, Janet and Jim Westrick. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, John P. Harp, a WWII veteran, who fought for freedom in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge; granddaughter Gretchen Glover; sister, Annabelle Westrick, and brother, Warren "Buster" Monroe, who was killed during WWII in the South Pacific while fighting to keep our country free and her beloved dog, Specks. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to all. She was a true patriot who loved and supported our country, Mary will be sorely missed. Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, OH, Wednesday, June 25th from 4 - 9 p.m., where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. Those wishing to give memorials, in lieu of flowers, are asked to consider Freedom Alliance, 22570 Markey Court, Suite 240, Dulles, Virginia 20166, to provided college educations to the children of our fallen heroes.
