Mary McBride Obituary

Mary Anne McBride

5/8/1942 - 4/5/2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Anne McBride, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She brought joy, love, and light to everyone she encountered, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness.

Born on May 8, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio, Mary Anne built a life filled with adventure, laughter, and deep connections. She and her husband of 43 years, Dr. Gary McBride Sr., shared a journey rich in love and family, eventually making their home in the Florida Keys. There, she nurtured not only her own large family but also a close-knit circle of friends and animals who became like family.

As a trained nurse and homemaker, Mary Anne brought warmth, beauty, and a sense of ease to every space she touched. From "The Farm" in Hopedale, Ohio, to her beloved home in Tavernier, Florida, she created a haven where friends and family could relax, laugh, and feel completely at home.

Mary Anne had a true gift for making things beautiful. An artist at heart, she could take the simplest of things and turn them into masterpieces. Whether it was something as small as a knitting project or as grand as decorating a home, she had an eye for bringing elements together in a way that was uniquely elegant. Her talent showed through in everything-color and décor, flowers and clothing. She had a knack for adding just the right touch to create her own signature style.

Even in the kitchen, Mary Anne's artistry shined. She could take whatever ingredients were on hand and transform them into meals that were not only delicious but visually stunning. It wasn't enough for her to simply cook; she always added a special twist-her homemade whipped cream, a flavorful sauce, or a bright, fresh fruit salad on the side.

Mary Anne made the world around her more beautiful-but more than that, she made people feel seen, valued, and deeply cared for. Those lucky enough to know her will always remember the joy, comfort, and genuine connection she brought into their lives.

And something her children will never forget: her whistle. Just one sound, and everyone knew to come home or pay attention. It was her special way of calling them back-one more reminder of her presence, her love, and the home she created.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary Foundation and Catholic Charities of Toledo, causes dear to Mary Anne's heart.

Mary Anne McBride's legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to be touched by her kindness, love, and light. May her memory be a reminder to embrace each day with warmth and to treasure every moment with those we love.

Mary Anne's family was everything to her. She is survived by her husband, Gary, and their children, Scott/Mary, the late Pat/Jackie, Mark/Kathy, Kevin/De, Jon/Sandy, Joe/Sheila, Kate/Pete, Tammie/Ben, Kelly/Clyde, Gary Jr./Lisa, Monica/Don, and Jill/Ray. She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Sally McIver; and her adored grandchildren, Kyler, the late Colin, Alyssa, Caroline, Gaia, Jackson, Thayer, Keelah, Rebekah, Elijah, the late Noah, Elliana, Ryan, Sean, Luke, Maya, Nicole, Giovanni, Dante, Denae, Travis, Jordan, Tyler, LaRee, Rachel, Clyde III, Lacey, Kara, Cliff, Dillon, Connor, Darby, Ryan, Joshua, Lance, Derek, Erica, Cory, Hayden, Grant, Nichole; as well as fifty-four great-grandchildren, with one on the way!

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at a later date in Tavernier. Details will be shared by the family.

Rest in peace, Mary Anne. Your love and light will continue to shine brightly in all of us.

My sincere sympathy to the Cooper/McBride family. Mary Anne and I were in the inaugural nursing program at the University of Toledo. We were in the same study group and shared a room in Columbus when we took State Boards in the summer of 1975. I remember how she was always upbeat, super sweet to all and very kind. Holding her in my memories.
