Melvin Leonard Smith, Jr.

Melvin Leonard Smith, Jr., age 74, passed away April 9, 2022. Melvin was born in Toledo, Ohio, on May 30, 1947, to the late Melvin Leonard Smith, Sr. and Virginia (Reinhart) Smith. He was a graduate of Waite High School and worked for many years as a millwright at Interlake Steel (i.e., Koppers) until it closed. He then went on to work for the CSX railroad repairing rail cars until his retirement. Mel loved to cook and was well known for serving up some of the best barbecue in town. He operated both ham and CB radios and enjoyed conversing with others whether they be from his own home town or around the world. He also was an avid fan of 60's and 70's music and could recite word for word the lyrics to hundreds of songs.

Melvin is survived by his sons, Jody Larson (Bev), Eric Smith (Tricia), Tylor Smith (Kelsey); daughter, Amanda Krueger (Brian); 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Karen Andrews, Sandra Ottney (Christopher). He was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved dog, Chopper. At Melvin's request, there will be no service or visitation and any contributions can be made to a charity of the donor's choosing. Arrangements have been entrusted to Habegger Funeral Services.
