Paul Friess Obituary

Paul Friess

June 3, 1978 - July 9, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Paul Friess - a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, admired brother, and loyal friend - who departed this life on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the age of 47, after a courageous battle with small cell carcinoma.

Born and raised in Sylvania, Ohio, Paul graduated from Sylvania Southview High School in 1996. He attended Kent State University where he studied chemistry before transferring to the University of Akron where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Paul worked as a civil engineer for Harris County in Texas for the past eight years. He enjoyed fishing on the lake, traveling with family, golfing, collecting steins, and adding to his tattoos. He was especially fascinated by the Civil War and often approached life with the strategic mind of a general - determined, steadfast, and unafraid of battle.

Paul was proud of his German and Lithuanian heritage. Paul and Colleen made a trip to Germany; as a result he got tattoos of the coat of arms of both countries. Paul and Colleen were married for 20 years. Paul was a devoted father to their three children, Alex (18), Jacob-James (15), and Fiona (12), who were the pride and joy of his life. Thanks to the extraordinary care he received at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Paul passed peacefully, hand in hand with Colleen, surrounded by the love of his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Colleen; his children, Alex, Jacob-James, and Fiona; his parents, Michael Friess and Brenda (Hall) Friess; his sisters, Jamie (Friess) Allen and her husband Phillip "Skip," and Danielle (Friess) Wehrs; his nieces and nephews; extended family; and countless friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. A memorial rememberance of life will be held at a future date.
