Paul LOGIUDICE Obituary

LOGIUDICE Paul Angelo Paul Angelo LoGiudice, age 52, of Toledo, Ohio and Atlanta, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, September 20th, 2011. Beloved son of Joseph S. Logiudice; loving brother of JoEl (husband-Simon Levy) LoGiudice, Maria Elena Gladfelter, Vicki (husband-John) Valley, Bill (wife-Paula) LoGiudice, Joseph (wife-Lisa) LoGiudice, Vito (wife-Holly) LoGiudice, Francis (wife-Honie) LoGiudice; cherished uncle of 4 nephews and 11 nieces; and compassionate friend of everyone whose lives he touched. His mother, Marie Claire Surgi LoGiudice, preceded Paul in death. He was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, attended St. Jude Catholic Grade School and Central Catholic High School. Paul Angelo LoGiudice was a gifted artist, prolific inventor, inspirational member of the Calphalon team at Newell Rubbermaid, dedicated volunteer of the arts, involved member of Old West End Historical Preservation, passionate gardener, and devoted supporter of Gay Pride initiatives in Toledo and Atlanta. Paul had almost 30 years of experience in the kitchen housewares industry. He started his career in retail, working as a manager for a gourmet specialty shop, then expanded upon his love for the culinary movement by becoming a housewares sales representative. In 1987, Paul began working for the Commercial Aluminum Cookware Company, known today as Calphalon. Paul proceeded to spend the rest of his career building, expanding and cultivating the Calphalon brand. His gift for design eventually earned him the responsibility of Director of Product Design in 1995. Paul's influence over product design led to many inventions and 27 patents. In 1999 he was recognized for his successes and received the prestigious Newell Rubbermaid Award, Paul was a pioneer and chairman of the Newell Rubbermaid employee resource group OPEN (Out and Proud for Equality at Newell Rubbermaid). As a result, one of the foundations that has been established in his name is with Youth Pride, Inc., an organization which provides critical services to create a safe haven for LGBTQQ youth in Atlanta, Georgia. Another one of his many passions was gardening, and plans are to create a memorial in his honor at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The family will hold two events in Toledo in celebration of Paul's many accomplishments and contributions. On Saturday, October 22 from noon to 3 p.m., friends and family will have visitation in the GlasSalon at the Toledo Museum of Art, Glass Pavilion, 2445 Monroe St. Toledo, Ohio and from 6 p.m. to midnight a Halloween celebration will take place to honor Paul, to share in his memory and celebrate a life filled with unique passion, unconditional friendships and eccentric vision. For invitation information go to: paulsfarewelltour2011.com Other events will take place including a special gathering hosted by his colleagues at Newell Rubbermaid at Paul's Morningside Cabin in Atlanta, Georgia on October 1st and interment at St. Louis Cemetery, New Orleans, Louisiana, in the family mausoleum on November 11th. Paul's heart was on his sleeve and his wit ever present. The day after Calphalon dropped a product line he championed (trademarked “Colors”), Paul showed up at work dressed in black and white: white shoes, black pants, white shirt, black beret. He was protesting the demise of "Colors" in only a way Paul could. Witty, warm, fun, and a creative force: that was Paul all the way.

Precious Paul....how you are missed by your family and all those whose lives you touched in so many ways. I'll always laugh when I think of the gigantic pasta you made at Lake Asbury and the posturing of you and Jon as you created that wonderful arch for JoEl and Simon's wedding. Your joy in living and creative spirit will continue to be an inspiration. love, Peggy and Jon

It's hard to believe the world has lost such a vibrant soul, someone who knew how to live well, someone who knew better than most how to live in this world. What a joy to have known Paul, even just a little, for he always made everyone feel welcome at his table and made everyone aware that we could all live out loud if we just chose to. He is missed.

My heart will forever have a place for you Paul. You were an incredible neighbor and friend who always kept life interesting. You were my partner in watching LOST and my weekly Sunday morning pancake breakfast date. Your laugh (shall i say, giggle) was pure delight and I have memories to last of times we spent together. You had gusto many of us can only aspire to have and a zest for life that was truly admirable. You lived life "Positively" in more ways than one! You can not know how much you are missed but trust in this, you were loved. The party will go on, but it will never be the same. Love ya honey!
