Robert Hauter Obituary

Robert "Bob" Hauter

Robert "Bob" Hauter, born May 30, 1948, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024 with his family by his side.

Born to Harold and Helen Hauter on the East Side of Toledo, Bob and his family relocated to Sylvania, Ohio, where he attended Sylvania High School before joining Millwrights and Piledrivers Local Union 1393, founded in part and led by generations of Hauters. Bob worked on many notable projects in the Toledo area, including extensive stints at Jeep and Davis-Besse nuclear power station, while also teaching trade classes to apprentice union members.

Known throughout Toledo for his gregarious, boisterous, and sometimes outrageous personality, Bob wore many hats and touched many local communities, as a Lake Erie Charter Boat captain, a Harley Davidson and Corvette enthusiast (he finally fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning a Corvette last year, and it's a doozy!), and a substance abuse recovery advocate.

Following retirement, Bob relocated to Point Place, then Odessa FL, where he settled into being a generous neighbor, great friend, and loving father and grandfather. In his later years, he enjoyed a quiet life of reading, spending time with friends and family, and going insanely deep on barbequing.

Deeply loved by his family, Bob was preceded in death by his father, Harold and mother, Helen. He is survived by his children, Julie Heidelberg (James Heidelberg) and Eric Hauter (Zoe Allerding); brother, Gary; sister, Diane; grandchildren: Aidan, Gabriel, Emma, Kathryn, Pearl, Clark, and Quinn; nephew, Michael Savory; and former wives, Susan (Hauter) Brzezowiez and Diane (Riley).

An open house celebration of Bob's life will be held at Oak Openings Preserve Metropark Lodge from 12:00-4:00 p.m. on June 15th, 2025. There will be a short memorial tribute at 1:30 p.m. In place of flowers, please consider donations to the Toledo AA Central Office or the American Heart Association.

Hi Bobby, I'm sitting here on the dock thinking about you and how much I miss you.
Remember all the times I called you when I was driving home from work barely able to stay awake. We would talk about anything, everything and nothing just to keep from falling asleep . You always answered my calls and probably kept me from crashing more than once.
...
Remember when we went walleye fishing and you almost threw my Diann over board. She hooked a walleye but in her panic and excitement she forgot you're very specific instructions. Do NOT bring the fish out of the water until I get a net under it!!!.
She reeled the walleye up and out of the water before you could get the net. The walleye shook the hook and was gone. But not before you got a look at it.
It was a NICE walleye and you swore it had a $MONEY$ tag on it.
I thought for sure Diann was going in the lake .
That trip turned out ok because you did put us on some walleye and a few perch.
...
The best part of that fishing trip besides not having to pull Diann out of Lake Erie (or God forbid having to replace her) was the fish dinner you fixed.
I'll never forget Captain Bob's recipe.
Dip the filet in egg wash then cover with flour then dip in the egg wash again then cover with potato buds then deep fry in the iron skillet. Filets were the BEST
...
BOBBY, how about the time you were coming to Lake Anna for our little get together and you insisted on riding your bike the 550 miles.
Your mom, my favorite Aunt Helen found out your plan and forbid you to ride you're bike here, to please take your truck.
I begged you not to ride the bike. Please take your truck.
Well, the next day here you come down the driveway on your Harley.
Yes, you were stubborn!!!!
...
Remember that evening you had a heart episode and sure enough you didn't have your pills on you.
So I ran down to the dock to get Mike's Nitro. Remember, Mike never got in a hurry for anything especially when he's fishing .
He eventually found his pills .
Bob, we searched you and your travel bag for your Nitro. No success. We finally found them in the bottom of one of your saddlebags.
...
Bobby, do me a favor, tell Grandma, Grandpa, your Mom and Dad and the rest of the family I said hello.
...
If you can please put in a good word for me up there and save me a seat.
...
Bobby, I miss you so much.
Love you
Cousin Donnie
...
PS, if Saint Peter asks you to do something, Don't be so stubborn. Just do it .
