Robert HIRZEL Obituary

HIRZEL Robert L. Robert Louis Hirzel, age 86, of Rossford passed away Monday, March 5, 2012. He was born on July 7, 1925, in Toledo to Alfred and Bertha Hirzel. Bob was a very hard working, kind and loving man who always put his family first. He was a graduate of Olney/Northwood High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany as a medic and later as an MP during which time he attended the Nuremberg Trials. Bob was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, charter member of the Northwood VFW where he was the first Quartermaster, a member of the North American Swiss Alliance, the Masonic Paragon Lodge #788 and the German American GBU where he volunteered for many years at the German American Festival. Bob worked for the family business, Alfred Hirzel and Sons Greenhouse, and later had a farming partnership with his brother, Alfred. He also worked for the C and O Railroad and at LOF/Pilkington where he retired after 30 years. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Alva; son, Robert; daughters, Cheryl (Kevin) Fitzpatrick, and Nancy (Craig) LaHote; grandchildren, Mike (Katie) Fitzpatrick, Nick Fitzpatrick, Mark (Rachael) Fitzpatrick, Lindsay (Austin) Rozelle, Alex LaHote, and Jessica LaHote; great-grandchildren, Reese and Nolan Fitzpatrick; brothers, Alfred and Ernie; sisters, Ruth Brown and Betty Stotz, and dear friends, Barb and John Mazur. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Madeline Cimpritz and Thelma Hoehner, and brothers, Donald and Hugh. Family and friends may visit at Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford, 830 Lime City Road on Friday, March 9, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 10, at 11:00 a.m. with viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Plumber Street, Toledo. Interment will follow at Lake Township Cemetery in Millbury. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob's memory may be made to: Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio. I had the pleasure of meeting Bob for the first time as an adult at the last Hirzel family reunion in June 2011. My sincere condolences go out to all his grieving family. You have been blessed to have known the love and kindness of such a wonderful soul.My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
