Robert Mossing Obituary

Robert Mossing

10/14/1946 - 10/4/2025

Robert A. "Bob" Mossing, age 78, of Toledo, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2025, at The Landing Nursing Home. He was born October 14, 1946, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Harold and Flossie (Barth) Mossing.

Bob graduated from Fulton High School in 1964. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, with his final duty station in the Philippines. He loved the structure and camaraderie of military life and being a part of Toastmasters, but after his honorable discharge, he was determined to earn a college degree on the GI Bill. He often hitchhiked to the University of Toledo-proof of his stubborn determination-and eventually graduated with a degree in Business Administration and a Master's in Public Administration.

He dedicated his life to the United States Federal District Courts and rose to the highest level as Clerk of Courts in various districts such as Detroit, MI; Albuquerque, NM; and Tallahassee, FL. He had a fascination with history and justice, never passing a courthouse without stopping for a photo. You would often find his children in the jury room on Saturdays and Sundays while he worked on his passion.

Dad loved music-from the Beatles, Janis Joplin, Elvis, Billy Joe and symphonies. He had a love of cooking and grilling, swore duct tape could fix anything, and believed $2 bills were a financial master plan- just ask a grandchild.

We have countless memories of him - hunting for arrowheads, jokes by the campfire, boating in Lake Erie, sledding in Ottawa Park, teaching Chess moves or listening to his latest "Dad wisdom," which often boiled down to: "Work more and leadership is hard." His favorite pastime was playing Euchre with family at the big Mossing gatherings, where "in the barn" is when all the fun started.

He was a devoted Catholic and made sure his three kids received a St. Pius X Catholic education and attended mass in their Sunday best.

We hold on to his love, humor, and resilience that defined him, and take comfort knowing that the best parts of him live on in his children and grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed by his children, Natalee (Richard) Mossing, Robert (Nisha) Mossing II, and James (Jaime) Mossing; grandchildren, Ashley, Zachary, and Madison Landers, Milan and Maya Mossing, and Evie Mossing.

Bob is also survived by his siblings, Judy Hite, Patricia Mossing, Rebecca (Ronald) Ehrsam, John (Jeannie) Mossing, Bernadette (Ken) Mierzwinski, and Michael Mossing; brother-in-law, Darryl Elton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Ann Wymer, Joan Elton, Joseph Mossing, Mark Mossing; and brother-in-law, Lyle Hite.

A Catholic Mass and Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, in Swanton, OH. The Mossing Family will be hosting a reception following mass.

He was a man with a big personality, who raised 3 great kids. He had a dog Foofoo who had a hunger for flesh that guarded his Euchre hands fiercely as he joyfully joked with everyone at the table!
