Stanley L. Nitkiewicz
May 3, 1926 - July 7, 2025
Stanley L. Nitkiewicz, 99 years young, passed away July 7, 2025, at the Toledo Hospital. Stanley was born May 3, 1926, in East McKeesport, PA, to Alexander and Gertrude (Mieczkowski) Nitkiewicz. He graduated from Toledo's Macomber High School and earned engineering degrees in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toledo.
Stan and his buddy, Dick Bonczek, started a Photography business during their Eighth Grade at St. Hedwig's Grade School, circa 1938. They had their own dark room and equipment and were quite successful. This early interest in photography was to stay with him for his entire life. He watched with great interest how photography morphed from a Brownie camera to digital photos on his iPad.
He served in the U.S. Navy on an LST during WWII and was honorably discharged.
Stan married Evelyn "Linda" Kluczynski on October 20, 1951. They were together happily until her passing, November, 2004. For the past 20 years he shared his life with his second love, Sharon Marciniak.
His professional career began with the Abbey Etna Machine Company where he was quickly promoted to Chief Engineer in December, 1958, and retired as the Vice President of Engineering. He developed many long-term friendships with business associates from all over the world. His travels took him to six of the seven continents, excluding Antarctica. In the early days it would require multiple hours in the Constellation Aircraft and overnight stays to reach a destination in Asia or Africa. He was a member of the Pan American Million-Miler when you actually had to fly a million miles, no bonus miles! He retired from Abbey-Etna in 1991, after 40 years.
There were many years of annual fishing trips with family and friends to the Georgian Bay, in Canada. When his wife, Linda, would join, she would usually out-fish him and beat him at cribbage!
Stan was always a Long Drive hitter in the Engineering Society golf outings. This infrequent round of golf turned into a passion for the game. He joined the Sylvania County Club in the mid-1980's, and could be found most Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons playing with his good friend, Bill Foradas.
Stan and his wife, Linda, found a great winter retreat at Isla Del Sol in St. Pete Beach, Florida. He quickly became a member of the golf club and continued his Monday, Wednesday and Friday regimen until just a few years ago when he only played once or twice a week. He had 4 Holes-in-one and won many Senior Events in his class. His weekly rounds were played with Don Fessler, John Mullins and Paul Kinsley for 20 years.
His daily routine in Florida always included a soak in the hot tub. He was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing his stories with the people he met. He was always looking forward, held a valid driver's license and managed his own affairs. His life was full. He lived as only he could.
Surviving are his children, Susan (Daniel) Jankowski, Mary Ann "Cookie" (Scott) Wisniewski and Robert (Lou) Nitkiewicz; and his 6 grandchildren, Corey, Sean, Brett, Neil, Stephanie and Andrew. Also surviving are his 2 great-grandchildren, Liam and Conor. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn "Linda" Nitkiewicz; his brothers, Alex, Joseph and Thomas Nitkiewicz; and his sister, Mary Balcerzak.
Stan's visitation will be Monday, July 14, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the Funeral Mass begins at 11 a.m., in Little Flower Catholic Church, 5522 Dorr St., Toledo, Ohio 43615. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Urbanski Funeral Home, a Life Celebration Home, 5055 Secor Rd., Toledo, Ohio, is assisting the family.
