Stephen Bartus Obituary

Stephen P. Bartus Jr.

Stephen 'Steve' P. Bartus, Jr. shed his mortal body and went to be with his Savior on September 27, 2024. Born March 29,1935, to Stephen and Elsie (Hasenbalg) Bartus. he was the eldest of 7; John, Sue (Ricci), Judy, Michael, David, and Cheryl. Steve graduated from Waite High School and the University of Toledo, and served in the U.S. Army. He married Janet Sell on October 3, 1964 and they had 4 children together: Laura (Nelson), Andrew, Philip, and Timothy. Steve retired as a chemist from LOF/Pilkington. He was predeceased by his parents; in-laws; infant son, Andrew; sisters, Judy and Sue; and brother, David.

Born again while watching a Billy Graham crusade as he held his infant daughter, Steve became active in the faith community. He was a long-time member of CBMC, where he learned how to live the Christian life. Steve judged science fairs and tutored at Toledo Christian Schools. He was a member and participant at Gateway Baptist Church, where he loved to share about missionaries around the world who were telling the Good News of Jesus Christ.

One of his favorite promises is from Jeremiah 29:11: "I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future." A promise he would like you to claim In the name of Jesus.

I had the good fortune to work with Steve for 30 years. He was a very humble man and never recognized the talent and scientific expertise that he contributed to his company. Even more important than his professional abilities was his character as a good and righteous man. I think we are all fortunate to live in this great country and can thank Steve for making it an even better place for all of us. Those of us lucky enough to have known him will miss him very much.

Janet and family,
I was sorry to read about Steve. I always enjoyed visiting with both of you at the Dauer cousin reunions. May your good memories comfort you and your family at this time of loss. He is rejoicing with his Savior and Lord.
With deepest sympathy,

I am terribly saddened to hear of the passing of Uncle Steve and I'm sending my love and prayers to Aunt Janet, Laura, Philip and Tim. Uncle Steve was a exceptionally good man who lived a good life and earned the love and respect of all who had the pleasure to meet him. However, all that knew him must be feeling a little bit of joy for him, having finally escaped these earthly bounds and struggles. Rest in peace Uncle Steve and may your love and goodness continue to shine on your loved ones. <3
