Steve was the best: in his own work, his understanding of people, his ability to teach and work with anyone, his great sense of humor and just being who he was.

As the Chairman of Urology Dr. Steve Selman recruited me to University of Toledo College of Medicine as a transplant surgeon and urologist ...it took two years before I got to UT finally. One regret, I wish I got here sooner...as I never got to work directly with Steve. However he made sure I was okay once I got to Toledo. Steve was a true mentor, leader and a genuine gentleman who took it on as a responsibility to bring out the best in others. I can truly say that I am better than I was because Steve gave me a chance and put me the path to excel. I thank you Steve, and your lovely wife Linda for welcoming me and my family to Toledo. Your memory will always be a blessing in our household. Rest well my friend.

So sorry to hear this. Quite a few years ago, he offered me some comments about Urology residency programs. At the time, he was not the Chair yet.

Steve and I were friends and classmates from first grade at Old Orchard School through graduation from DeVilbiss High School; I wound up a year behind him at Case Western Reserve Medical School. He was the hardest working student I ever knew and that translated into his career as a urologic surgeon, researcher, and department head. He was supremely dedicated to his patients and his work and I know the patients appreciated his skills and his persona as a doctor. Even though I hadn't seen him in several years, I still feel a sense of loss at knowing he's gone. Condolences to Linda, his children, and grandchildren on his passing. May his memory be for a blessing.

Steve and I were in the same elementary school class at Old Orchard. By coincidence, I was going through the obituaries for the Toledo area yesterday and saw Steve's name and picture. I recognized him immediately even though we lost contact after graduating. I remember Steve as someone who was a nice guy and friend. I'm so impressed reading about Steve's accomplishments. He led a really great life.

Intimate and personal are words to describe Steve´s service.
While I do not know Hebrew, the cantor´s singing was very moving.
I did not know how closely
and respectably he followed his religion. This may explain why he gave so much to God´s people.
I was in awe as the cantor moved from family member,to family member
holding their hands and speaking of their personal relationship with Steve.
My condolences to Steve´s family and friends. May you Rest In Peace you wonderful man,a childhood friend.

My husband Bill was a patient of Dr. Selman and I remember his smile and encouragement every time we saw him. What a joy it was for Bill to see Dr. Selman to hear his encouraging words. We were blessed by his sincere dedication to his profession and thank him for his honest but sometimes discouraging diagnosis. He was a true professional doctor.

So very sorry to read of Steve's passing. A devastating loss of a truly great man and surgeon.
Attached is a picture, taken in 1955, of my late father, Nathan Schwartz holding me at my 1st birthday. Steve is giving Betsy Blumberg a piggy back ride. I grew up across the street from the Selman family. I spent many hours in their home and playing with Steve, Susie and Warren and all our neighborhood kids. They were an amazing family. My sincerest condolences to all of Steve's family. May your loving memories bring you comfort and peace during this most difficult time.

Dr. Selman was such a wonderful man. He was a talented surgeon as I went through a kidney donation for my brother Noah Stone. The process was such a positive one because of his talented hands and kind words to help me and our family through a difficult time. Dr. Selman and Dr. Rees and Dr. JJ made a wonderful team at MCO. My condolences to his family and please know that your husband and father made a big difference in the Stone family.
