I just heard of Suzanne's death and was taken back. We were in grad school together and helped each other through the typical grad school stress with a lot of unnecessary joking around. She was so much fun and am sad to know that there is now less humor in the world.

Anita, Bus & John. I have just heard the sad news about Suzie, I'm so very sorry for your loss. I remember all the good times we had on Woodfox Dr. in Toledo together! She was such a wonderful person. It's been many years since I've seen you all, but as I read other posts on here about her, sounds like she was a wonderful Mother, Wife and Friend to many. She will be missed and never forgotten. My heart is with you all during this difficult time. May her husband and children have the strength during this difficult time as well. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this trying time.

February 5, 2013

Suz and I lived down the street as children and have remained close friends throughout the years even though we moved away early on. As kids, we had shared many, many laughs. Picking raspberries in her mothers garden in our sleepers so the bees wouldn't sting us, melting crayons into one huge multi-colored one in her sidewalk cracks (not her dads favorite), playing bears with Pots and Jo-Jo (we hated dolls), and picking dandelions on the soccer field. As we got older, our visits changed to trips to the quarry, and hanging out with each others friends. Being with Suz you immediately felt as if her friends were yours as well. In college and as adults we still found time to visit yearly, stand in each others weddings, and let our kids play. It didn't matter how old we were, or how long it had been since we spoke last we always picked up where we left off.

Her memory will always be with us, and her legacy will continue through her children. Suz would smile if she were here with us today. She would have some funny story to tell to make everyone comfortable, and we would for a moment forget our sadness. I will miss my friend dearly, but I am so grateful for having known her. My thoughts go out to her family.
-Love, Shelb

Suzanne Melby Geckle...as I think back on the brief couple experiences I had meeting her in Toledo I can remember what an exciting experience it was to be present in a room she was in. She was truly one of those kindred spirits that drew attention from everyone in the room without even trying, and everyone was willing to give it too because she made you want to be there with her laughing, smiling, cracking on her brother, all the good stuff like that. When I think of her I see this bright, smiling face and I think that is something of an incredible gift she gave everyone she met.

Amy and I send our prayers to all of her family and friends, those we know, and those we haven't had the fortune to meet yet. We grieve with you, but we also smile in thinking of her and the light she brings to the room.

John and I were in the same Sr.High youth group at Point Place United Church Of Christ in Toledo and Susy was in the same group as my sister. There are many great memories of us and her family growing up in the church. Most of all I remember her wonderful smile! It saddens me that someone so young has lost her battle but take comfort her pain is gone. I tried keeping up on her blog "the whole ordeal"...what an amazingly strong woman! She leaves behind a wonderful legacy of many whose lives she touched. God bless and prayers to her family...my thoughts are with you.

My dear Suz. I will truly miss your beautiful smile and your energetic personality. You are one of a kind. I am so blessed to have been a part of your life. There isn't a high school memory that I have that does not include you. From 10 girls packing in your parents van for Henry J's, steaming rolling in your livingroom, swim parties, cheerleading camps, Friday nights, Grease play, talent shows, and so many more. As adults, I so looked forward to you coming to T-town for our yearly dinners with "the girls." You will forever live in my heart and memories. To the Melby/Geckle family, I am so sorry for your loss. Floyd & Anita,
We were so saddened to hear of the passing of your daughter, Suzanne. Please know that you will be in our hearts & prayers. In situations like this, it makes us think of our own children and how difficult it would be if one of them passed on.
Perhaps we can get together the next time we are in Toledo.
All the best.
