Wayne WHEATLEY Obituary

WHEATLEY Wayne "Butch" Wayne "Butch" Wheatley, beloved father, husband and friend unexpectedly left this earth on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at the Toledo Hospital after complications from heart surgery. His death came too soon for his children but they are comforted by memories of his love, thoughtfulness and generosity during his 74 years. Butch's small town roots began in Elmore, Ohio where he was born on September 22, 1935, to Robert and Doris (Hovis) Wheatley. Butch graduated from Elmore High School where he proudly wore the #41 jersey as a member of the Bulldogs football team. He married Betty Hasselbach, his wife of 44 years who hailed from Fremont, Ohio, in 1957. Betty preceded him in death in 2001. A hard worker all his life, Butch joined Libbey Owens Ford as a glass worker and remained there for more than 30 years. The Wheatleys moved to Lindsey, Ohio in 1958 and became "converted" fans of the Golden Bears. Butch's love of sports remained a constant which he passed on to his children. The family spent many hours cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. Butch was especially pleased when his daughter and two grandchildren attended OSU. A devoted grandfather, his grandchildren could always count on seeing him at their school and sporting events. Butch remained connected to his children by sharing their interests. He enjoyed talking tools with his son and shopping with his daughters. A dedicated son-in-law, Butch was very close to his wife's family. Neighbors knew they could always count on Butch when they needed help, whether it be farming or mowing, or just to lend a tool to a friend. Butch found a creative outlet in woodworking, and had a small workshop behind the house where he loved to pass the hours carving unique objects such as a beautiful rocking horse and a baker's rack. Butch left a loving family to celebrate his memory. He is survived by son, Mark Wheatley (Deb) of Clyde; daughter, Susan Egbert (Mark) of Gibsonburg, and daughter, Vicki Wheatley of Waterville, Ohio; grand-children, Lisa and Laurie Wheatley, James and Jason Barnes, and Kristi and Tony Egbert; three great-grand-children; and brother, Lenny Wheatley of Fremont. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents, Doris and Robert Wheatley; parents-in-law, Pearl and Gerald Hasselbach; brothers, Roland and Paul Wheatley; and sisters, Audrey Filson and Twyla Wyatt. Visitation will be on Sunday, November 29, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Gibsonburg. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Metheny officiating. Burial will follow at McGormley Cemetery, Fremont. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. To make online condolences please visit www.hermankinn.com

We are so sorry to hear that Wayne has passed. We are also sad to hear about Betty. It has been a long time since we had seen either of them. We will always remember the great vacation in Upper Michigan that we all shared as one of our greatest
