William Lenz Obituary

LENZ

William J. Sr.

William J. Lenz Sr. passed into the nearer presence of Jesus on July 14, 2015. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on September 2, 1914, to Otto and Augusta (Schwartz) Lenz. He was the youngest of their seven children.

He graduated from Toledo Vocational High School. While in high school and for a period following, he worked for Roulet's Jewelry. Bill next worked for Standard Parts in Port Clinton until hired by Toledo Edison. He retired after 37 years of service. He was a member of Local 245 of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

On September 4, 1937, Bill married Margaret F. Hummer and they spent 67 years together before her passing. They enjoyed family and friends, traveling, and playing cards. Bill particularly enjoyed working on projects with his two sons, especially woodworking. His children and grandchildren eagerly anticipated the annual wooden Christmas ornament made with lots of love. He relished time with his family and took great delight in the annual fishing trip into the Canadian wilderness.

In retirement he volunteered on the work crew at Glenwood Lutheran Church, Focus, and Feed Your Neighbor. He and Margaret were members of Keenagers at Glenwood and AARPS. They also were avid travelers throughout the United States and Europe and enjoyed 5 cruises.

In addition to unconditional love, the greatest gift he imparted to his family was fostering their faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of Jesus' sacrifice, we will be together again.

Bill was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Karl and Otto; sisters, Clara Peters, Augusta Breier, Ede Armstrong, Marta Screptock, and his beloved son, William J. Lenz Jr. He is survived by his son, Charles (Eileen Banks); daughter, Carol (Paul) Doerfler; 11 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.

Friends may visit from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17th, at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, (between Secor and Douglas Roads). Funeral Services will begin at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, at Glenwood Lutheran Church, 2545 Monroe Street, with a luncheon immediately following.

Interment will be at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery. No flowers please. Memorial contributions may be made to Glenwood Lutheran Church, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or to the William J. Lenz Jr., MD Memorial Award, that honors excellence in psychiatry among UTMC psychiatry residents.

My deepest condolences on the passing of Grampa Lenz. I'll never forget his wake-up call in Canada! "Auf Steigen! Funf minuten!" First one up, never stopped moving! He had more energy than all us boys put together. He was a great role model and I will continue to tell his stories. He will be missed here but I know he is smiling with Bill and Gramma Lenz now. -Love to the Lenz clan. Scott Donaldson

Carol Anne & Chuck & families,
So sorry to hear of Uncle Bill's passing.
I remember the birthday cards filled with the stripe gum, tiny jelly beans for Easter and the back yard at your home. It seemed like a fairy garden to me! And, your old house, I remember that house, it was so cool! He was one of the last great men from an awesome generation. My condolences to you all, your parents are together, with my dad & his parents! I'm sure having a great game of Michigan Rummy!
