Richard Shrigley Obituary

Richard Ray Shrigley, 84, passed away Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at his home in Carlsbad, Calif. Richard was born Feb. 26, 1931, in West Elizabeth, the son of Edgar Shrigley and Tressie Gobbie Shrigley. He graduated from Elizabeth High School in Elizabeth in 1949. He enlisted in the Navy from 1951 to 1955 and served during the Korean War on the USS Iowa. After his discharge, he attended Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., where he played baseball and football. While attending college in Clinton, S.C., he met his wife, Janet Sloan, at the Dairy Bar she worked at that her parents owned. They were married July 1, 1956. Richard graduated from Presbyterian College in 1959 with his Bachelor of Science degree. After college, Richard played for the Milwaukee Braves minor league baseball team. Richard spent the majority of his career working in the tire industry. He spent nine years working for Wang Laboratories in Nashua, N.H., where he and his wife raised their four children. He loved sports, and found great delight in watching his children and grandchildren play sports throughout childhood and college. He loved to golf and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by his loving family including his wife of 59 years, Janet Shrigley, of Carlsbad, Calif., and their four children, Kim Shrigley, of Knoxville, Tenn., Richard Shrigley and his wife, Heidi, of Carlsbad, Calif., Karin Shrigley, of Raleigh, N.C., and Rebecca Shrigley and her husband, Steve, of Westerville, Ohio. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Jacqui Pearl, of Knoxville, Tenn., Steven Pearl and Michael Pearl, of Auburn, Ala., Leah Pearl, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Samantha, Matthew and Sarah Shrigley, of Carlsbad, Calif., Cristi Greene and husband, Ryan, of Raleigh, N.C., Annie Snarski, of Raleigh, N.C., Ian, Ryan, Dane and Jake Nagy, of Westerville, Ohio.
