Charles E. Bernath

1934 - 2016

Charles E. Bernath, 81, peacefully passed away Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at his home in North Versailles, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 6, 1934, in McKeesport, to Charles and Mary Bernath (both deceased). He graduated from Swissvale High School and later earned his Bachelor's of Science degree in industrial management from California University of Pennsylvania. Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Jean Bernath, who he married April 2, 1954; daughters, Debbie Ward (Scott), of North Huntingdon, Cheryl Miller (Jim), of Washington, Marilyn Urban (Mike), of Penn Township, Barbara Bernath (Ernie Pais), of Verona; and son, Charles Bernath (Robin Fox), of Brackenridge. He is adored by 11 grandchildren, Heather Maurizio, Mike Ward, Doug Ward, Suzanne Priest, David Miller, Elissa Sunseri, Marla Dibuo, Miles Urban, Megan Carter, C. Weston Bernath and Connor Bernath. He also loved his 10 great-grandchildren dearly, Isabella Priest, Ben Priest, Mia Maurizio, Roman Maurizio, Cicely Sunseri, Bianca Sunseri, James Sunseri, Lila Miller, Tessa Miller and Grant Dibuo. He was the brother of Betty Donaldson (deceased), of Dover, Del.; brother-in-law, Charles Waicus (Dolly), of North Huntingdon; and several nieces. Chuck will be remembered as a passionate family man and was active in his local parish. He retired from Westinghouse East Pittsburgh after 37 years, was a member of the Westinghouse Foremans Association and was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, honored as the Knight of the Year in 2008-2009. Chuck loved travel and family vacations (especially Ocean City, Md.), watching his children and grandchildren play sports and activities and he enjoyed bowling with his wife, Jean.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the JAMES F. KUTCH & FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATORY, 433 LINCOLN HIGHWAY, East McKeesport, PA 15035, 412-823-4054. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Robert Bellarmine Church with Father Brennan officiating. Burial will follow at Braddock Catholic Cemetery. Knights of Columbus service at 6 p.m. Thursday, with color guard and prayer circle to follow.
