John D. Linhart

John D. "Jack" Linhart, 85, of North Huntingdon, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at Redstone Highlands, North Huntingdon. He was born Feb. 21, 1920, in Guffy, North Huntingdon, a son of the late William Clemens and Elizabeth Ann Gongaware Linhart. He was a retired supervisor for Westinghouse Electric Corp., East Pittsburgh, and a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Irwin, Shidle Lodge No. 601, F&AM, Irwin, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Westmoreland Forest No. 77, and the Norwin Elks Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret "Peg" Messner Linhart; three sisters, Alma Cook, Elsie Gardner and Myra Ralph; and two brothers, Alvin Lenhart and William Linhart. He is survived by two daughters, Pamela L. Sonney (Kermit), of Apex, N.C., and Elizabeth L. "Betsy" Sykes (Roy), of North Huntingdon; three grandchildren, Kevin Sonney (Renee), of Pittsboro, N.C., Karen Price (Robert), of Charlotte, N.C., and Amy Sykes, of Wilkins Township; four great-grandchildren, Raymond and Jacob Sonney, and Zachary and Katherine Price; also nieces and nephews, including Doris Carlson, of Irwin. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Clifton J. Suehr officiating. Interment will follow in Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon. A Masonic service will be held at 9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
