Nicholas Tomich

Nicholas "Nick" Tomich, Ph.D., 75, of Churchill, died peacefully Wednesday, June 8, 2016, after a brief unexpected illness, with his wife of 48 years by his side. He was a son of the late Jovo and Dorothy Tomich; beloved husband to Mary Ann (Hajdinovich) Tomich; loving father of Alexis (David) Janiga; special and devoted Jedo of Matthew, Anthony and Maria; and brother of George (Karen) Tomich and Caroline (Dennis) Shaeffer. Nick was adored by his four-legged friend, Max. He is also survived by a niece and numerous nephews, Kumovi and many friends. Nick was a member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Monroeville and was a dedicated choir member for more than 40 years, and a Mason. He enjoyed making wine, smoking meats and gardening and especially adored his beautiful grandchildren. For more than 40 years, Nick was an educator at public schools and a university level before retiring from the East Allegheny School District. Nick put everyone before himself with his soft demeanor and was a true gentleman.
Friends welcome from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from noon until a Pomen service at 8 p.m. Friday in the ALFIERI FUNERAL HOME, 201 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding (412-824-4332). Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church, 2110 Haymaker Road, Monroeville, with the Very Rev. D.C. Malich officiating. Please meet directly at church on Saturday.
