Robert L. "Kilroy" Conroy Sr., age 76, on Sunday, July 7, 2002. Son of the late Melba B. (McClintock) Kreiling and Walter J. Conroy; stepson of the late Ralph M. Kreiling; loving husband of 53 years of Gertrude "Gert" (Coughlin) Conroy; beloved father of Alice M. Conroy, James M. (Mary) Conroy, Janet L. "Jay" (Ricky) Hayhurst, Robert L. "Biggs" (Diane) Conroy Jr., Melba B. "Melbert" (Chuck) Slepsky and Susan L. Conroy; grandfather of Melissa "Missy" (Kevin) Leistner, Lynette (Robert) Frost, Ronnie, Maxwell (Adrian) and Miranda Conroy, Chris (Tina) Nellis, Eric (Danielle) Suprak, Joey Kapcin, Shannon Conroy, Erin Slepsky, Kyle R. Tomnay, Nathan and Elizabeth Conroy; great-grandfather of Max and Noah Conroy, Tyler and Kelsie Frost, Anna Fischer, Austin and Nicole Suprak; dear brother of Karen (Dennis) Mazak; family friend of Robert "Bob" Tomnay. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Friends received in the ALFIERI FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding, Monday and Tuesday noon to 9 p.m. Services Wednesday at 1 p.m. in McMasters United Methodist Church, Triboro and Church streets, Turtle Creek. Bob was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He began his career as a fireman in the military as fireman 1st class. He was a devoted fireman with the Turtle Creek Fire Department for over 56 years, serving as a former captain and 2nd assistant. He took pride in that he was a fourth generation fireman on his mother's side, the McClintock family. He also took pride in serving on the Turtle Creek Fire Department for over 15 years with his son, Robert L. "Biggs" Conroy Jr. Bob was a member of the Officers and Committees of the Western PA Fireman's Association and the Western PA High Hatters. He was past president of the Old Timers Association, and a member of the Goose Neckers of the State of PA, AHAOGN, Fire Chiefs Association of Allegheny County, Allegheny County Volunteer Fire Fighters Association and PA State Fireman's Association. He was a charter member of Rescue 2 and belonged to the following social clubs: American Legion of Penn Hills and Rankin, Polish Club of Braddock, Ukrainian Club of Wilmerding and Dante Club of Rankin. Bob was retired with over 35 years of service with the former Rochez Brothers in Braddock. He will be fondly known for his devotion to family, country and fire fighting.
