Ruth Dunbar Obituary

Ruth McKibbin Dunbar, 99, of Mt. Lebanon, died peacefully Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014. Ruth was born March 24, 1915, daughter of the late James and Harriet (Willett) McKibbin. She was the beloved wife for 37 years of the late Charles E. Dunbar; loving mother of William (Vicky) Dunbar, Nancy (Owen) Kilbane and the late James (surviving spouse Susan) Dunbar; sister of the late James G. McKibbin; devoted grandmother of Amy, Emily and James Dunbar, Sheila (Joel) Carr and Colleen (Prosper) Ayimbota; great-grandmother of Riley, Nadia, Stefan, Philomena, Elise, Olive, Grace Ruth and Nancy; and beloved aunt of Barbara Custer, Doug (Jane) Kaltenbach, Kathy (Doug) Corell, Olivia and Tess. She also leaves behind many cherished friends. Ruth was a 1933 valedictorian of Dormont High School and a 1937 Distinguished Graduate of Allegheny College. She was a proud 80 year member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity. "Lovable Mrs. Dunbar" taught 2nd grade at Hillsdale and Kelton Schools in Dormont, the Keystone Oaks School District, for 25 years. She was a warm, loving teacher and inspiration to all. She was a loyal member of the Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church for 87 years. Services will be private. If desired, memorials may be made to Family Hospice and Palliative Care, 50 Moffett St., Pittsburgh, PA 15243. All who knew Ruth were touched by her patient, kind, humble and loyal spirit.
