-To the Family of "Doc Sullivan"
My deepest condolences go out to you and my prayers are on Dr. Sullivan that he's in a better place. He was my U.S. History teacher at Oliver High School and one of the only ones i ever truly believed cared about our class. Doc Sullivan was an extraordinary educator and a very wise man. There have been so many things he's told our first period history class about his life that used to often make me wonder how much he'd been through in his life, but now I know that whatever it was, made for a wonderful person. Doc Sullivan will truly always be missed in the halls of Oliver High and in my life forever.

p.s...
Doc-- Thanks so much for the end of last year. I never would've made it without you. :)

"Doc" Sullivan was my History teacher at Oliver High School and he was one of the best I had had my four years. He was the nicest person ever...he never yelled while we were in class no matter how loud the room got! He will truly be missed at Oliver and all over Pittsburgh! Im soo sorry for the loss and he will remain in my prayers!

Teacher, public defender, veteran, father, advocate, husband, volunteer--the list made all the more meaningful by the fact that Tim was a kind and honest person.
My heart goes out to you, Jeanne, and to the kids, who were so loved by him.

Dear Jeanne and Family,

I was so saddened by the news...then read the amazing story of Timothy J. Sullivan Jr. If an obituary can be as inspiring as this one, the man himself had to be one extraordinary individual. All my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you celebrate his life and mourn his passing.

Dear Jeanne and Sullivan Family.

I never new Tim, I wish that I had. Tim's true colors shine through in so many ways: his service in Vietnam (I well remember those scary and tragic days); his commitment to teaching and coaching kids in high school; mentoring kids of all ages; his work as a public defender; and, of course, by the company he kept. Jeanne, you and Tim have set the bar high in your contributions to improving the lives of so many. That work never ceases to exist. I wish that I could be in your company today, Jeanne, and meet many of Tim's family and friends. I will be thinking of you.

Normally, one would say "Words can't express...." but in this case, Dear Jeanne, Tim, and Maureen...the words did express.
The words spoke truth, beauty, power and grace to a man who was all of that and more. It sure would be fun to run into him again. Well, he sure did love all of you..so through you i will say godspeed good soldier, gentle soul..the good you left behind makes our way a little brighter. with fond thoughts of you all. irene

Tim was a joy and a teacher -- inspirationally so -- to me when he was with the Public Defender. I wish I had spent more time with him recently. I'm sure God will bless his family during their grief.

I was deeply saddened to read of the loss of my friend Tim. Warm memories of our days in the public defender's office and the laughs, frustrations and good times we had flooded my morning. Tim was a warm, caring, genuine guy and a gentleman of the first order. Please accept my deepest sympathy at his passing.

Sullivan Family:

Please allow me to express my deepest sympathy. "Doc" and I taught together at Oliver High School for a number of years, and during that time I enjoyed seeking out his guidance and recommendations on a variety of issues along with talking with him about his "Army Days". He always had an "open door" for me and treated me with respect and kindness, something I will always remember. He was just a great guy and will be missed.

I knew Tim first through reputation - I was friends with several of his son's friends and they loved being at the Sullivan house.

I also worked with him briefly when he was at B&N and people liked him so much there.

Having recently lost a parent, I know this must be a great shock to all. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Dear Sullivan Family,
I worked with Tim in the Pittsburgh Public Schools (first at Westinghouse H.S.). He was a bright, insightful, humorous man. I always enjoyed the conversations I had with him (he was full of knowledge). Tim enriched the lives of all who came into contact with him; he was "one-of-a-kind".
May his memory be an inspiration to us all.
May you all find comfort from all the good that Tim did.

Jeanne and the Sullivan family,
I am so sorry to hear of the death of Tim. In 1956, Tim lived down the hall from me at St. Joseph College. He was a good classmate and friend. I transferred after my sophmore year and we lost contact. Fortunately for me, in the last few years we regained contact through e-mail. He was a great guy when I knew him in college and comments in the guest book confirm that he remained so throughout his life. Tim will be missed but I am happy that I was fortunate enough to know him.

Jean-

I am very saddened by the news that Tim passed away. He was a true friend and a highly respected teaching colleague. His love of learning and the insights that he derived from his extensive educational and professional background will continue to influence me and all of those whose lives he touched.

I don't know if Tim ever told you that he grew up with my wife's older brother (Frank Cardimen) in Coraopolis. Frank has fond memories of Tim and sends his sympathies to you and the rest of your family.

With a heavy heart,

Maureen and Tim,
I didn't know your Dad very well, but he was a wonderfully entertaining guy. I once sat with him at a luncheon and he kept our table engrossed. A very smart man and a great conversationalist. He'll be missed by many.

Tim , Tim, Tim,

I'm sad that you are gone.

But I'll remember the great man behind the great woman, your refreshing conversation, your appropriate outrage at many injustices, and the outrageous fun you could have.

Jean: My sympathies go out to you and your family at this time. Doc was a very intelligent, compassionate and well-respected person who loved life. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it and then some. Great guy who was an asset to any endeavor that challenged him. He was a mentor and leader to me as well as to others. He will be missed greatly by all that knew him and loved him. I will miss you Doc; go with the Lord now and be at peace.
