Alfonso A. DeCapite

Alfonso A. DeCapite, 87, of Gilpin Township, passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024. Born Nov. 12, 1937, in Rivisondoli, Italy, he was the son of the late Agostino and Loretta (Remito) DeCapite. Alfonso was a graduate of Vandergrift High School and received a master's degree in biology from the University of Clarion. He was a Biology Teacher for the Deer Lakes School District for many years, before retiring in 1999. He was a member of Leechburg Elks and a member of Christ the King Parish. Alfonso enjoyed golf, fishing, and keeping fit. He most loved spending time with his family. Alfonso was an avid Pirates and Steeler fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lena; and brothers, Sam and Benjamin. Alfonso is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Kathy M. (Libent) Decapite; son, Todd A. (Stacie) DeCapite of Meadville; daughter, Jeanine (Bill) Shearer of Kepple Hill; grandchildren, Dylan Cullen, Haley DeCapite, Colton Shearer, Agostino DeCapite, Corbin Shearer, Brady Shearer, Kerrie DeCapite, and Grayson DeCapite; sister, Sylvia Kostiuk; and many other family members and friends. Friends will be received on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the CURRAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 300 Market St., Leechburg. Parting prayers of transfer will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., in St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, 303 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift, with Father Michael Sciberrras as celebrant.
