David Horton Obituary

Pastor David Duane Horton, 75, of Acme, Pa., passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017. He was the beloved husband of 22 years of Carole (Hepler) Horton. He was born Aug. 27, 1941, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Delbert E. and Margie (Jean) Dollman Horton. He was a graduate of Penn Hills High School. He served in the Navy and was honorably discharged after six years of service. He worked at the Port Authority of Allegheny County, retiring as superintendent of buildings and maintenance in 1991. He started a youth organization, Solid Ground Mountain Rangers, to train young men in the Bible and various survival skills. Later, he started a yearly summer camping program for children and teens. He was a licensed and ordained minister of the gospel by Sheepfold Ministries of Pittsburgh, and began Lighthouse Ministries of Acme, Pa. in 2001. His interests included motorcycling, boating, collecting Native American art and flutes and wood working. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Edward Horton. He is survived by three brothers, Delbert E. Horton Jr., of Ruffsdale, Jack Horton, of Suffolk, Va. and John Horton, of Darraugh; one sister, Margie Jean Strayer, of Indianola; two sons, David Duane Horton Jr., of Mill Creek and Matthew Timothy Horton, of Pittsburgh; three daughters, Shari Lynn Fialkovich, of North Versailles, Theresa Ann Smith, of Cheswick and Marsha Jean Tamski, of Apollo; stepson, James Russell Noah II, of Acme; two stepdaughters, Melanie Sue Schnute, of Howell, Mich. and Aimee Beth Kendall, of New Alexandria; also 23 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one on the way. His footprint was huge. He will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the CLYDE BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., corner of Municipal Building Road and Route 711, Melcroft, Pa. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the Lighthouse Ministries, Acme, Pa. with Rev. Timothy Auer officiating.
